dahon pant-leg strap

I used to own a metal (horseshoe shaped) pant-clip. I didn't much like it, but it more-or-less worked.

I am enamored of the dahon strap-style device that 'comes with a new dahon' (anyway the IDEA thereof). I have purchased a used dahon. It did not come with the strap. I phoned my lbs (according to a web-site - a dahon dealer - they agreed there existed such a relationship, but they don't stock any parts) and was told it may not even be possible to order the strap without the bike 'attached'.

What does anyone here think? Is there a way to buy this seemingly-useful device separately? Is there a reasonable alternative (e.g., a strap that fits to the handlebar, or somewhere, so it is always with the bike) - even if not dahon? I am always misplacing my metal gizmo because it does not do that - it is, in fact, misplaced right now. Stuffing my pant leg into my sock is not much fun.

I use these https://www.amazon.com/Jandd-Ankle-St...ike+leg+straps
They work well and are very comfortable.

Ask any runner for a spare pair. They are common gifts at street races and many runners have them as souvenirs because they have more than they can use.
Also you can look for them at any running shop. A model like this one is useful: https://www.amazon.com/Cycleaware-Sla...ds=slap+on+leg

I used those a long time ago but have since used various nylon straps with velcro closures that IMHO are a much more useful alternative. Even toe clip straps or large velcro cable ties that you can buy at hardware/home-improvement stores here in the states work well.

Have you tried amazon? They have a bunch of clips. For example this one if you are using pants https://amzn.com/B001KG86P4 and this one if you are using trousers https://amzn.com/B002O8P4SE .

What's the difference between "pants" and "trousers"? I suppose it depends on what country/region you're from, but to me they're synonymous.

I think that was "tongue-in-cheek"... Brooks straps being the only appropriate ones for trousers which are normally a dressier form of pants.

A very easy solution. How about making your own? Or hire/ask someone to do it if you don't want to sew it yourself. Either way, it is far more secure on your leg and fits better as well. I have made all mine when I lost my own Dahon pants clip (or misplaced it, I am not sure). In any event, all you need is a two pieces of an mid to heavy weight rectangular fabric (denim, chino, twill and the like) or one to two inch wide webbing (your choice) and Velcro to attached the pants clip (or rather, a band in this case,) together securely. The fabric band needs an additional step in sewing the 2 separate fabric pieces together to form the single rectangular band. The use of webbing does not need to do this step. Here are the photos below of the finished product, flattened out and around my leg. I hand-marbled the photographed one below as well with fabric paint to really make mine a one-of-a-kind pant clip!

[TD="width: 423"]Hi. I can help. I'm an athletic apparels designer and designed the Erikami trouser straps. The trouser straps prevent your trouser from getting caught on the chain or other parts around that area of the bike. It also reduces the risk of getting chain oil on your trouser. They cuff on quickly and can be removed in less than a second. Here's the link to my site if you're interested in getting one. erikami_bikingapparel on eBay

I too have a used Dahon that dd not come with a strap. I use this same exact strap from Amazon which works great. It is long enough to go around my ham hock-style legs.

I bought one at my local bike shop in Akihabara, the cost was 600 yen. It is an excellent strap, and so far the best one I have tried.

I use the " Leg Shield". It's the industrial strength leg strap. It can get a bit hot, but you definitely get the best pant/trouser protection there is.
