Tighten the v clamp

Tighten the v clamp
Im looking for a bit of guidance. I think the v clamp on my Dahon Mu was a bit loose. The frame feels well held, but there wasn't any force needed to close the latch. I tightened it very slightly. I'm wondering how I judge if its set right. It was a TINY adjustment. The manual gives the newton setting as 39 - 88 N. That is as meaningful to me as setting it to 0.5 of a trout! Cheers guys.

as you can see from the attached image, .325 is, what we in the industry refer to as "the sweet spot". but, anything from .3 to .625 is generally acceptable for lay usage. simply adjust until you feel "comfortable" and then - enjoy!

I'm pretty sure there is supposed to be some force feedback to closing the hinge properly.
According to the web, those Nm = 24-64 lb-ft.
I'm assuming when the hinge is fully closed/locked, you need to torque that hex bolt between 24-64 lb-ft.
You would need a torque wrench to know for sure.

Haha! That makes my day! It all makes sense now. And now that Im breathing again, I'll get a torque wrench on it as u describe. That means buying one but I can see its a must have for folders. In the meantime though, is there a way of judging by how tight the latch feels.
I don't often say this, but thats an actual lol!

Too bad Dahon isn't like Tern that made all these instructional videos on how to set these hinges according to feel.

this video "might" work for the dahon latch. But I think the v-clamp has a very different setup than these OCL joints.

Yes that's exactly the sort of video I wish Dahon made! Its quite a nice looking clamp mechanism on that Tern. It is totally different to the Mu though.
The thing about these foldy joints is, they loosen very gradually and I don't always notice that it has loosened a lot over time. I'm getting a trout gauge or a torque wrench ASAP. Until then I'm making my clamp slightly looser than I remember it being when the bike was new. Cheers.
