i was finally able to ride the panasonic springbok today.

PRO: very comfortable and stable ride. absorbs road imperfections. no flex on the frame. spot-on steering

CON: short distance between saddle and handlebar

UPGRADE: 451 wheels, durano tires, more forward stem 110mm 0 degree (maybe nitto as suggested by smallwheeler)

dahon boardwalk

PRO: it rides like a bike friday. solid. stable. comfortable.

CON: stem/fork assemble needs to be adjusted/tightened as it becomes loose towards the end of the ride

UPGRADE: headset, stem/fork assembly (need to figure out why it becomes loose)

Wow, you have a very extensive collection. You could list them all with pics in a separate thread. Maybe a new owners thread...

Love that silver dual drive dahon classic. I don't really like classics but that's a bike I'd like to own with that finiish and mods.

Just modded my Boardwalk S1 and got rid of the kick brake.

Replaced it with a wheel with a freewheel hub and a caliper brake. Lost a decent amount of weight in the process. Love riding this thing now.

very nice, marxmini. i think a nice upgrade for the springbok would be a mix of vintage 80s suntour and sugino group set bits. maybe shimano 600 parts..

i really love this one:

Thanks for the advice...I've heard that about this brand, but I've never seen related news... Anyway there are no dealers of this brand where I live, an I still think they have very cool designs and ideas... I like the red one and I was tempted to buy a new one from Amazon the other day (another model)...

I've beee posting to the above thread to figure something out- maybe you guys on the "small bikes" thread can help me figure it out. Basically, the consensus is that a full size diamond road frame cannot fit into a conventional check-in bag (about 29 x ? x ?), even if it is stripped of its handlebars, etc. Will a stripped mini-velo frame (non-folding and without S+S couplers) fit into such a suitcase? My impression is that even though a mini-velo has small wheels, the frame is still approximately full size.

So many cool bikes but I really like the Raleigh/Springbok style.

Would love to see those in Root Beer color or orange or cream color.

Never rode one.

i am sure it does not cost a lot of money. ordinary surplus bikes from japan are being sold retail here at around 50-60USD. special ones are sold from 100USD and above.

This sounds like a cloud fund opportunity.

a container of surplus bikes from japan will have in it various bikes (e.g. city bikes, mamacharis, mountain bikes, folding bikes) all piled up one on top of the other.

Big 20

from the looks of it, very nicely made. it's marketed as a touring bike. i don't know about that but, the frame shape does seem to suggest some interesting possibilities for cargo..

No front brake and the crank looks too much forward of the seat stay, not sure it will be particularly comfortable.
