Based on your example, you may be confusing patent rights with design/copyright. The latter has a much longer duration.

Based on your response, you seem to be claiming that the Swift design is (still) covered by patent. If you have any actual knowledge of this, please enlighten us with the patent number. Otherwise, the Swift is an unprotected design in the public domain, like the pneumatic tire.

"Latter" implied design/copyright in that sentence (not patent rights). I don't know if there is a patent re the Swift. But there is a unique design - which usually indicates a copyright. Copyright is (from wikipedia) "a form of intellectual property of much longer duration that exists as soon as a qualifying work is created". Copyright in the US is for the author's life plus 70 years.

Xootr licenses the design. jur sought permission to create a Ti one-ff, and I gather from earlier in the post has some arrangement with Swift designer Peter Reich to license or authorize more frames being built. Even if there were not legal issues, it simply seems the right thing to do.

You're suggesting the Swift is an aesthetic design with no functional utility? Because that's about the only category of copyright that could apply.

Back to the pneumatic tire thing.

I see your point about the square plate but I do not find it too visually bothersome. I suppose a kind of solid chock in the form of a double curved "H" that would cradle both pipes might be a more solid attachment. It also might help the seatpost alignment issue that Jur discussed.

I'm late coming back to the party, but I would be interested in one as well. Got sidetracked by buying a bathroom remodel, heat pump repair and more. I'm pretty sure I have some parts that could be re-puposed to keep the rest of the cost down to a reasonable level.

OK I have a quote for 5 framesets, that includes basically everything in my Swift, for $1400 each. Not everyone may want the full suite I got for myself.

Also, apparently someone else got working on that frame and modded it, see this pic I got sent:

Replacable dropouts and disc brake fittings, I also see rack bosses and bottle cage nuts in front of the seat tube.

The manufacturer also claims to have solved the seat tube alignment issues.

Looks very nice. Does the $1400 include ti seatpost and stem similar to yours? Are the seatposts for Peter in addition to that price? Is the currency US dollars or AUS dollar?

OK here's how it could happen :

1. The pic above has almost all the improvements listed, may include 2 more: V-brake studs and a front derailer braze-on bracket.

2. The number stands at 5 possibly 6 frames after marxmini indicated he needs one.

3. A 20% deposit is needed to proceed. The quote is in US$. All parties would send me their deposit, and I would pay the vendor the full deposit amount.
3. The quoted price includes postage of the order to Australia, I will just get an update to a US address. Marxmini's order will be sent separately to the Philippines.
4. Someone in the US will need to receive the US-bound lot and send it onwards to the final US destinations. That would be paid and handled separately.
5. The quote includes:
Frame, fork, seatpost, curved stem riser, additional steering clamp, Ti headset, bullhorn handlebar.
It doesn't include the seatpost tithe to Peter Reich, as this manufacturer can't do 34.0mm diameter. That will need to be ordered separately from the 2nd manufacturer. I don't have a quote but that is likely to be $75 plus postage each.

I just had a detailed look at the pic above, the seat tube joint looks blooming perfect.

Could also use the cane creek thudbuster post in there too I suppose!

Not the Swift one, maybe one of the other ones with suitable shim and clamp. The seatpost diameter is 31.6mm,or she said also 31.8mm.

Seems like the bottle cage braze-ons are in the wrong place. I don't have a Swift, but it seems like a bottle would interfere with the front derailleur and the crankset, and the bolts could interfere with dropping the seatpost low. A bottle cage would also interfere with the fold as it would hit the bottom of the top tube. Maybe on the stem riser or just leave them off?

What front and rear hub spacing? Is a rear derailleur hanger included? What size and type thread for the bottom bracket?

How would one transfer funds internationally? PayPal is obvious, but they rake 3% or so off the top, and that will happen twice, once into my account, then into the manufacturer account, so everyone loses 6%.

So what other options are there?

The frame in the pic above has most of the suggested mods, so the complete frameset will look like mine but with the improvements as above. I have to get them to do the V-brake bosses also.

The bottle cage nuts won't interfere if a derailer bracket is welded on. If a bottle cage was installed, the seatpost will indeed not be able to be pushed down, but that is not needed on the Swift. Also the bottle cage would bump the top tube when folded, preventing a full fold, but I don't think that is a massive problem. I think it's a bigger problem that road grime will splash on the bottle in the wet.

jur, the problem with EMS to my country is that it is not a door to door service anymore. i have to pick it up from the post office. i would prefer using a door to door service (air). these are the ones being used by our country's overseas contract workers to ship their items back home. it is a true door to door service with no hidden charges. the last one i used is LBC Air and they delivered my moulton frame at my doorstep.

the last time i sent money was directly to the bank account of the seller. if that is not possible what about western union or some other facility similar to it.

so the frame will have provisions for disc brake and v brakes?

is it possible not to have the bottle cage bosses in the seat tube as presented? there is just so much grime and dirt that hits that area. i would prefer them in the original position (handlepost) or on the top tube (similar to the tyrell fx).

Geometry issues:

I wonder if all interested parties could state how tall you are? The curved riser could be made shorter and with a shorter reach. The height can be easily adjusted by adding a spacer. I am 178cm, Mr Average.
