I'm probably missing the point, but what is the reason for needing a tool to lock/unlock your bike? Does it reduce weight or increases rigidity?

mainly for a super stable joint, the moulton bikes have a similar set up, basically so there is no noticeable flex in the frame especially as its made for performance plus the fact it does not really need the maintenance and adjustment on the hinge like normal folders, less likely to wear etc etc.

Yeah that makes sense. Not for me though - I still value quick folds over pure performance.

I would like the slightly more compact fold than my silvertip but I really just want that little tool in the bar-end although I would be nervous having it there all the time because I do occasionally lock the bike up on the street.

OK, it's almost a folding bmx bike,... I LUV IT! I'd probably have purchased this over my Xootr Swift tbh,...it's so unique. The Xootr is unique as well, but I'm a sucker for a bmx bike.

with the lockjaw technology this frame should feel no different than a non folding frame when it comes to stiffness. There is no way you will have flex once those teeth are locked down. Only part might be the steerer tube cause it's long.

its a beautiful clean lines and stiff bike.. pocket racer so to speak. Not necessary designed as a commuter bike, lacking fenders carrier etc etc the need to fold it in 13.8 seconds every day 6 times ...
Its not available yet .. but I think It will be early 2015

I would have this now even over a moulton it is perfect for what I am after, old school bmx style with gears and skinny wheels, its stunning, unfortunately I need a bike now and bidding on a moulton, if I fail to get the bike and get outbid, I will probably get a xootr as that's my 2nd choice then modify the crap out of it, maybe with some red kinetix wheels from the dahons, bit of carbon sprinkled about, thudbuster post etc etc although I love a race spec dahon mu, slx etc like the Asian chaps do, they love the bling and do fantastic looking machines, but I bet if the clinch sells with carbon wheels and gates drive etc it will be very expensive.

Is there a release date on this? When I finally sell my Xootr Swift I'm going to have my LBS order this for me (Bellitte bikes). They're a authorized Dahon dealer. I'm STOKED!

the only problem is that price will be 2k+ since it uses sram red components. I would guess about the price of Tern X20.

I will hope that the production model will have a little less expensive components on it. If Dahon is real smart they would also sell this as a kit bike .... frame fork handlebar and various small parts ...

either way I will have the bike in the program, when it is no longer vapourware

€3,000/$3,743

That's a lot of money for just a "Carbon Controltech Clincher Wheelset".

At half that price, I might consider it, but at €3K, it's way overpriced.

well....that carbon wheel set is around 800 to 900 dlr... at least I sell it for that. If you consider some wheels from Zipp hed and many others to cost 4000 bucks and more ..and that's only a wheelset ... than the complete price of the bike must be a bargain..
right ?

But is it worth it?

Are carbon wheels only used to shave a couple kgs ("9.6 kg (21.2 lbs)"), or are they also used to provide a smoother ride (in which case, aren't there cheaper options (tires, suspension, etc.)?)?

I'd be interested if it sold for about €1,500/$1900, but €3,000 is too much.

I have no idea ..lol

coming back to the price
so somebody show me a regular bike equipped with Sram red components, carbon cranks carbon wheels for under 3000 grand ...

I am not happy about that as earlier said , would rather have a more modest group installed , but thats not up to me to decide ...

Yeah, maybe provide a more palatable priced unit for those of us less financially endowed...

Srsly. Speccing Rival/X7 and a set of Kinetix wouldn't add much weight but would drop the price quite a bit. They should offer a couple levels, let this one be the 'SL' and then have one or two more with lower specs and prices. A base model with Alivio and standard wheels would prolly sell pretty well.
