Brompton for hire.
Has this been covered here? If it has I do apologize.
Do we have anything like this on this side of the pond? I know we don't where I live.

How long do you think an unattended box full of Bromptons would last in NYC? Nobody wants the CaBi/Citibikes,but those would be gone in a day.

I saw a study San Francisco did on Brompton Bike Hire and other methods of Bike/ mixed transportation. I didn't have a lot of interest in that area, but I was curious about the break even point. I don't have a like to the study but it wasn't tough to find on line. I am using it this week. The system is great but much smaller than the London Bike Hire. The bikes get pretty beat up cosmetically. I want a Brompton at some point and this has talked me out of the mudguard only model. I will be a rack all the way for me. I can't roll this without dragging the front wheel at some point. I think the rack and ez wheel would lift it just enough to avoid front wheel contact with the ground. Ithougth something was wrong and tried 3 different bikes. They all had the same issue. I picked the one that was least bad.

you can 'work' for the bank ..LBS runs off lines of credit for inventory , so they are owned by the bank too .. It's a Juggling game.
As to topic PDX Brompton dealer has rentals to use , & maybe sell you on buying one.
Then, sells off the rentals in the winter, 1st come basis , then puts new ones out in the spring .

Did I read that right only 2.50 english pounds(or was it Euros) to rent for the whole day for a brompton. That's about (i think )$5.oo US.I am suddenly very skeptical of that price,I 've been to London, nothing there is that cheap.
Also, the cage/box they're stored in wouldn't last five minutes where I live( it one of the reason I bought a brompton, great bike goes ,everywhere with me.
edit.
I went back to check on pricing,it is just about 2.50lb per day (up to (Sorry, stupid advert blocks post in edit) but the price goes up d depending on how many times you need it and what membership you buy. But it's still not bad if true.It goes up to 19lbs ($40) but for long time use.I don't think they are goind to keep to many business at those rates. Also, someone will think away around
around the ID problem and walk off with few Bromptons.

Brompton Dock (Bike Hire) has two plans. The first lower initial investment plan is 1 pound to start and 5 pounds a day. The other plan is 20 pounds to start and 2.50 pounds a day. It is cheap and more convenient than checking bikes in and out. Bike hire programs can be costly if the bike is held for awhile. Most are intended for short point to point trips.

Is Brompton Bike Hire for real? Has anyone, especially visitors to the UK, had experience with it?
Seven of us will visit near Reading, UK for a week, and plan to rent bikes. I notice there there is a dock at the Reading RR station as well as one at Didcot, not to far to the west. The price appears unbeatable. We also plan to visit various areas by train; but the train companies' bike policies seem to make that difficult: e.g., must reserved by 4:00 PM the day before, only two per train, etc. But folders, as with Amtrak, go as carry on luggage.

I also asked if one needed a cell (mobile) phone to reserve a bike, but they ignored that question. The website seemed to say yes, but provided no further information other than you have to register (goes without saying), log on, and click a link. No information on the code needed to access the bike.
