Is there a safe way to do that? Any hardware I need to use for the install to make the frame rigid after the cut?

It's not a DIY sort of project. If having belt drive is a priority, you should cancel your order and choose a different bike. Tern just showed a belt drive Verge at Eurobike.

I've seen that too and that's where I got the idea because it seems like the verge and eclipse share the same frame design(I think). If not then I'll stick with the chain and just use a biologic freedrive.

The basic concept of the frames is very similar, but all it takes is one small difference such as a split drop out or joined chainstay to make or break the ability to run belt drive. In this case, Tern has thus far only modified that single Verge model frame (none of the other Verge bikes do that). Perhaps they will release belt friendly Eclipse frame in the future.
