Not exactly new since they did it before. But I think it was limited in production numbers. Personally, I think the standard looks nicer.

Looks the same as every other Brompton to me, just a bit more black powder coat and presumably an inflated price tag to cover the cost that additional power coat and to make the buyer feel that bit more superior to those riding standard Bromptons.

FWIW, the Black Edition Bromptons are priced the same as other Bromptons.

Are you sure about that? As a shop owner have you got inside knowledge? According to the Brompton web site they are not available until the end of this month?
Brompton are missing a trick then, I am sure plenty of customers will be prepared to pay more just because its going to be limited to 5000 bikes. Someone in their marketing department need sacking for such an obvious oversight

My understanding is that the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (the "MSRP") for a Black Edition Brompton is the same as any other 2015 Brompton. Keep in mind that the MSRP is a suggested price. The dealer determines his actual selling price.

That's strictly not true for Bromptons. Last time I checked, all dealers are supposed to sell at Brompton's set price. This has been Brompton policy from the beginning and they are very strict on that one. There are exceptions but Brompton will strike a vendor from the list if caught consistently under-selling B's.

you are correct on this one jur. the price of the black series brompton M6L is the same as the standard black M6L.

brompton will only produce 5000 units of the black series.

I only intended to solicit opinions regarding the color. There was no intent to start a controversy.

FYI... I emailed Brompton asking whether black rear racks would be available. The answer was no at the moment but the Brompton rep told me that my request would be passed on and considered along with any other comments. I'm not holding my breath.

just checked that site and to have full disk brakes you are looking at around 760USD? wow that's a very pricey upgrade putting your brompton easily over $2000!
not sure if that is worth it and what's really crazy is the Rohloff upgrade rear triangle kit is an eye watering $2300 USD upgrade! whew! But don't forget that comes with the crazy high end 14 speed rohloff hub (around $1500 retail). But at these prices I would probably consider getting a really good second bike for touring and just use the brompton on what it is best for multimode commuting.

Other than the color, the specs are the same as any other Brompton, correct? Then it's just a matter of taste. Other than the seat post, I don't see much difference from a standard black black Brompton.

It doesn't do anything for me, but then I wouldn't have chosen an black Brompton in any case. It also seems rather unnecessarily ninja for urban riding.

The graphics package is mated to a few specific almost-neon colors (or all black), so I think the purpose goes beyond just blacking out the silver parts; it seems an attempt to have a less traditional look overall. I kinda like it as a factory attempt at a "hot rod Brompton", but I like the traditional just as well. I'm curious how the black post holds up to constant raising/lowering..it seems to me it would show scratches much faster and more noticeably than silver.

I know a lot of people are going to pounce on me, but I don't like black much at all on many things, especially a bicycle. I find the color depressing - even grey. Give me bright vibrant colors any day.

I guess that why you dont live further North either. take a pass on the long winter nights even though the reward is long summer days..

I got a good deal on my Bike Friday Pocket Llama , because the BTO Order backed out. when the Finish was a Dark anthracite grey and not Pitch Black.

You've got that right. Nothing worse than day after day after day of dreary grey skies. We get more days of sunshine than anywhere else in the US . You know what that meas don't you. More days of riding .
