  • Talk slow -- now that I'm older, I still don't get it?
  • Move slow -- like Uncle Jed.
  • Talk about old times/tell stories/anecdotes.
  • Cough/clear throat -- I was watching a video the other day and this guy kept clearing his throat after every sentence. I couldn't watch it.
  • Make funny (human animal) noises. Not just an old thing though.

I was at the doctor's office a little while ago. The room was full of similarly aged males. Every time one of them got called back to see the doctor they all groaned when they stood up. I vowed when they called me I would not groan upon standing. When they came for me I involuntarily did in anyways...damn it.

Yeah, my wife thinks I have something to say... nah, just clearing my throat, again...

She came into the bathroom the other day... "You OK... you're making a lot of grunting noises..."
Me, toweling off, reaching high and low... "I'm fine, just gettin' to all the parts..."
Her:... "uh, OK... "

I've always suspected a crotchety gene. But unlike puberty or menopause, I'm just not sure at what age it begins to takes effect.

Predict weather via lumbago.

Give directions that include using farm animals as waypoints.

Reckon. A lot.

Unless OP is Jethro Bodine, who was Jed Clampett's nephew on "The Beverly Hillbillies".

You start not giving a darn and speak what you feel.

And you notice stuff like that's a wood burning locomotive, then wonder if it throws klinkers that might start a fire.

And you know who Bea Benaderet and Paul Henning are.
