Scrabble will be catering to idiots in the UK!

Crazy Brits

Scrabble fans in the UK should start brushing up on their pop culture - word is the 62-year-old board game is changing the rules.

Mattel will be issuing a new version of the popular game only in the United Kingdom, and for the first time, will allow players to score points with proper names such as Beyonce and Pepsi.

"We are launching a new edition of Scrabble in the UK later this year which builds on the rules of the classic game to introduce a new dimension to the play format," a Mattel spokesperson told the Daily News.

"One of the new twists being introduced does include an opportunity for players to play a proper noun."

Scrabble purists can keep their dictionaries, though. This is not a replacement of the classic board game, but "will be available alongside Scrabble Original."

No word yet if Hasbro, which controls the rights to the game in the United States, plans to release a similar version.

Alternate versions of Scrabble have been sold in the past, but the general rules of the game, invented in 1938, have remained largely unchanged.

I say that the first clipper ship that pulls into port loaded with UK Scrabble gets boarded and we throw all of the games into harbor.

Pcad, the Pope of Scrabble, has excommunicated the entire UK for this transgression.

We will never speak of this again.
