They do. It's just that the storage space for foo is so advanced that it virtually takes no space.

Oh yes, I remember the days of writing in 6502 assembly and going through my source code changing "DFB $00" to "DFB 0" to save those precious two bytes, and having done that a few times I had enough space to write a couple more instructions in my code. Back then the OS, assembler, source code, everything, had to fit into 64kb or you couldn't have it and even then I only had as much as 64kb to play with because I had a higher end computer.

Now if you're running Windows you need over 1GB just to look at the pretty desktop. In a way it's good, in a way it's bad because when "buy a bigger disk" is an acceptable solution so many developers seem to be lazy when it comes to resource management.

Spooky to think about where we have come from in just a few short years...

XT's w/8 floppys running dos everything to HDD's that are in the terra, flash drives... Soon they'll be implanting chips in your body to regulate health problems.....skynet's coming...

I remember buying two full height 5.25" single sided double density 150k floppy drives for $400 each. That was in 1982 dollars. Yikes! That was a months pay.

Sadly, I do. Can't imagine using them today. I think I actually have a couple stored away. Thought I'd impress my grandkids with one of them someday.
