Why 10 posts pre submit pics????
Newbie here. Why does a newbie need to create 10 new posts before adding any pics? Makes no sense to me**********

Most forums do this to prevent spam and or scams.

I know I am contributing to the ridiculousness but if you want to post pictures get involved with the forums. This is a nonsense post probably to get up to 10 posts. Plenty of great stuff about bikes to get involved with as this is a bike forum and it is the title. If you need a single question answered or something like that Altavista or Ask Jeeves are designed for that but this again is a bike forum get involved with talking bikes, it is a lot of fun.

Most of the long time members here heaved a huge sigh of relief when this policy was instituted. For awhile, there were so many junk postings that the forums were unreadable.

I am pretty new here, but I usually spend more time on most forums reading and learning than I do posting. My father always told me there is more to learn by listening than by talking. The spam thing though has made a lot of places unpleasant to be, so I’m also glad something is being done to control it.

You can upload to the gallery here at BF and then tell us they are there. Or you can put them on a site like imgur.com and just write the sharing link in your message. If the spam filter balks at the link, then you have to make it not look like a URL and most of us can figure out how to make it work again. Usually remove the https:// and maybe put a space on either side of any period.
It might be a test to separate the lambs! <grin> But most every high traffic website I've been on in the last dozen or more years does this for spam protection.

I can see the reason, but the details of the rules were almost too much for me, and maybe they should be revised. I'm talking specifically about the five/day auxiliary rule. I did five one day, and five two days later, and STILL couldn't post a picture until the next day. Y'all almost lost me over it. I know, no biggie, right?
It was somewhat infuriating, and I can understand the frustration.

If anyone has seen the absolute carpet bombing of spam/scam bots that used to happen here you might cut the forums some slack. For information, the OP above has pictures in his gallery as we speak and probably doesn't even realize it that any one can see them if so inclined. I have no problem with pic assists as is done by some, even do it myself sometimes to help a new member because a picture of a bike is the fuel that runs this place.

Well then, you should have seen the state of these forums before the rules were changed. Obviously something had to be done to allow the volunteer moderators to deal with literally hundreds of unwanted and inappropriate posts.

I understand the point you are making. The post was sincere. I have never heard of such a rule in any other forum I have been a member of albeit I have only been in about 3-4 other forums since I discovered the internet. As a new member it comes across a bit off-putting but hopefully I will appreciate the effects of the rule long term. I have a desire to get back into biking after a very long hiatus. I had googled a few things and more than once the search led me to this forum. Hopefully it will be a good source of information and at times entertainment. I like to educate myself on the things I am passionate about.

a bit of a struggle, but understandable. Pretty simple way to filter out bots and spam accounts imo
