Is it different on your home planet?

Check time/date: Other forums are also crashing. Some parts work, others are broken. The whole web seems unstable. Something is going on in a big way somewhere. Try running this test - it's a speed-check from Verizon:

I was hatched here.

I don't know about the "internet melting down" (maybe somebody's ISP) but I still have an occasional PM problem after typing a long time and timing out. When asked to log in to continue I then get an error message about already being logged in and to hit the back button (never resolves it it you go back to that PM page)...now to remedy that, as I was looged in on that page and continued to be was to go back to INBOX with the saved text and paste it back when I re-opened the reply.

This has happened before and I probably mentioned it before. Oh well. I have the workaround.

Panthers007 09-27-08 05:56 PM

Yesterday/last pm there was indeed a widespread problem plaguing the 'net. Friends in Holland were have glitches all over their vBulletins forum (like this one - same software, but better). When I finally could get a "Speed-Test" from the above link (early today), the read-out was riddled with error-codes and resets.

Something was most certainly fried all over the map/globe.

I wonder if there was a solar flare yesterday? Satellite disruption, maybe?

There was a new outbreak of sunspot activity yesterday and the satellites are very close to the plane of the ecliptic this time of year and in the spring as well. This can cause issues if the Proton and electron flux goes high enough as a result of the sunspots and satellites are primary links in the Internet.

Rollfast 09-27-08 07:27 PM

darn.

Missed all of it.

Multiple errors, blank pages, slow/no downloads - any update on when/if this will be fixed what caused the problems please?

Same here, and this only effects BF; other sites load just fine.

You must be related to the head of Development at my day job. That's his usual answer.

I've been subscribed to the "Banned Users" thread. Some posts don't come through to my email, some posts I get multiples of. Can't seem to see any rhyme or reason to it. I've tried resubscribing and get the same results.

Search isn't working for me. I'm actually trying to find some information here instead of just BS'ing in the road forum, and I can't do it. Grr.

I put in a search, and nothing happens. It just hangs.

Tried to search for posts containing UK13, made by user markhr, sorted by date, in all forums.

The search, after 5min+, gives either a blank page or just the BF header graphic and a blank page, i.e., no results and no "no results" page.

here's a similar search with google

Early this morning, around 2.00 am PST.

Could have been earlier, but I wasn't awake then.

Megs, did I need to put some sarcasm tags up there? It's not like search has been working very much over the last several years, why should today be any different?

ummmm........looooooool :(

In between knocking Search, would one of you two please knock Search upside the head with a cricket bat?

Failing that a temporary fix/alternative would be nice. :)

Please

Search is not working. System stops responding for several minutes when a search is entered, either keyword search or by search user name. Same in "search forums" and "search this forum". If I wait long enough, like 5 minutes, I get an empty search response page. View new posts still works.

I see that you're relatively new. ;) Do you recall search ever working reliably during your time on this site?

In all seriousness, (or as much as we can muster) this is an ongoing issue, and you should probably look at search working as a blessing, rather than a given.

Flatballer 10-06-08 09:04 PM

My first couple of months here must've just been lucky. It usually seemed to work when I needed it.
