Can you enable iPhone app functionality?

I just recently got an app for my iPhone which allows an easy format to read forums called Tapatalk https://www.tapatalk.com/en/plugin

Do you have any plans to add functionality to support such an app? It looks like a pretty easy (and free) install for the forum owner side of things and would be awesome.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, the microdevice apps haven't caught up with vB4 software yet, and are only compatible to vB 3.8 and older and aren't backward compatible from 4.0.xx. We are in fact trying to develop that and it's on the horizon for sometime this year, is what I've been told about this issue.

Alas, technology failing to keep up with technology. Thanks for the update, I'll be on the lookout for more info down the road.

Looks like it's been updated, unless I'm reading this wrong:

Q: Which forum system does it currently support?
A: Currently phpBB3 3.0.x and vBulletin 3.7, 3.8 and 4.0 are supported. IPB (Invision Power Board) will also be supported in Februray 2010 time-frame
Plus, they now have an android app.

I just installed the Tapatalk app on my iphone, and it works pretty well!

I guess they have an Android version too- I'd love to be able to browse BikeForums with this. Sounds like the server install is free and as stated may support the newer bbs versions?

Love this forum and would be great to get to it from my mobile device.

One other thread about it is here:

I'm going to pass this along to the appropriate folks. I'm sure they'll QA it, and see how it looks.

Have you noticed any bugginess in render of the forums with this App?

I use it on another VB site and it works perfectly.

OK, I just got off the phone with our team. Concerning taptalk, we have a significant amount of custom code, and in honesty, we aren't sure about database stability if we implement an external vendors plug-in as of this time. We don't want to revert to the initial problems we had when we updated to vB4 and then the database going unstable on us. We are going to wait for the vBulletin solution currently under planning and development for this issue and stay on the actual development pathway for the moment.

Thanks for the response Tom. I'll be interested to hear about the vBulletin solution. In the meantime, it's not too bad using the built-in mobile browser. The dedicated apps are cool for the small screen, though. Hopefully there will be an options soon that doesn't require much risk in the DB. Thanks again!
