McAuley frame - Anyone Have Any Info?

Hello all,

first time posting in the framebuilders corner of the forums. I was told I might get some help from you guys. Do you guys know anything about the person who made this frame? Seems like a really cool old mountain bike. Certainly seems custom

Thanks guys,
-O’Malley

I don't mind you asking here but it doesn't seem like a framebuilder question. FBs are not especially known for their knowledge of other people's bikes. We're not shut-ins, but your average bike shop employee sees more different brands than most FBs, who most days only see one brand — their own.

The C&V forum has lots of people who answer this type of question almost every day.

bulgie ,
hmm that makes sense, I understand. I previously posted to the CnV and someone recommended I ask here as a Hail Mary.

Thanks for the intel!

I wonder if that was built as a touring frame. I agree with Bulgie, if C&V doesn't know, FB probably isn't going to help. It's possible FB gets more visibility on google for these kinds of threads though. Which would be weird, but a lot of times newbies show up with info.

Clever way to extend the rear without extra-extra long chainstays.

Bikes: Columbine, Lynskey GR300, Paramount Track Bike, Colnago Super (4), Santana Tandems (1995 & 2007), Gary Fisher Piranha (retired), Bianchi Track Bike, a couple of Honda mountain bikes

My stepdad had a McAuley road bike in the late '70s in Los Angeles. My recollection is McAuley was in LA, but that was a long time ago, and I soon got into racing Colnagos and he bought one of the first Kleins and I'm not sure what happened to the bike. It definitely didn't have that chain stay thingy.

Hmm interesting! Do you have any pictures? Was the head badge and decals the same?

The frame decals are the same. I don't remember the head badge. Sorry, no pictures.
