Paint Over Chrome - Difficult ?
Hi forummers,
I have a question for you all: I have a Columbus EL Daccordi
and the top tube has a dent which requires it to be replaced, when I stripped the paint the complete frame was chrome underneath (I had an idea it was) only really being polished in the areas that were exposed in its painted state. When I have had the top tube replaced will I have to have the chrome stripped from the rest of the frame before I can have the paintwork done? I have been told bad reports about trying to paint over chrome
Thanks in advance for any replies.

i have an older pinarello thats all chrome and has held up well since being repainted by cyclart about 4 years ago. they did say it's not as durable over chrome, but whatever they did seems to have worked. i've got a couple little chips here and there, but none more than normal. while it's not ideal, i'd say a good painter can do it well.

I bought back in the day a Miyata Dura-ace, 1985. (I havent seen any like that here in the US anyway, the dura ace that was sold in the us is diferent than the one I got.) Those ones where chromed underneath... at least the BB the chainstains and whole front was chromed... An ishiwata 600 that I had was the samething... I think the trick is the clear coat... besides the miyata and the ishiwata i had both had at least like 3 or 4 layers of clearcoat and like 2 layers of paint. I think it was electrostatic paint or something like that...
sheers...
