used torch kits/tanks tips

I'm looking to get hold of a used torch kit and tanks so I can do some frame repair/modification work. Any tips on where I could find this stuff? What should I be looking for? some types better than others? This will be my first set up, so I need a bit of guidance.

Thanks

I have seen several types on the lists. Either people trying to get rid of jewelry/aircraft torch kits, or people unloading old cutting and welding gear. The former are normally overpriced and the latter are normally not suitable. Occasionally the bottles come up by themselves, and they could be a good deal if you knew enough to know whether they were still safe, and could be sure they will be taken in trade when you need them filled.

In the end I bought new, and went for propane oxy as generally better, with only the Oxy bottle to rent from the welding outfit, the propane bottles are pretty cheap.

I was looking for used, and found that people wanted more than the welding supply people wanted for new. I got a nice Smith AW1A from someone that couldn't afford to build frames, and bought tanks and regulators from the welding supply. The tanks people wanted to sell were also quite expensive and who knows if you can even get them filled.

so I'll keep new an option. I'd love to find some used stuff though, from someone I can trust.

You might in your part of the world, I would look through local EAA chapters that kind of place, the average farm or metal shop torch is not suitable as you know.
