The cups required two diamond infused rubber bits to get back in the mirror finish. It should be pretty smooth when installed.

The bb tool is modeled after an old VAR tool that clamped the center of the races. This tool was made using a race car lug nut and a race car stud welded into two 1/2 inch drive sockets. I an put my two foot breaker bar in the ends and loosen even the toughest cups.

Why is it that the one that goes bad is the left side? I can get right ones from a lot of suppliers, but left are difficult to source. This spindle has some pitting that polishing may not remove.

The fingers are used to check the tension. My sense of touch is probably as good as the fancy meters so I use just my hands for this.

The rim is centered and the tolerance are within a few thousandths of an inch, so good enuf for me.

The onboard tension meter! By compressing the pairs of spokes together, they seat in and stretch a little bit. The amounts that each one will stretch will make the wheel slightly out of true.

I have placed the spokes through the hub flange from the opposite side such that they all will be on the outside of the wheel while lacing the non drive side flange.

I have placed a few sheets of paper inside the wheel to make the spoke pattern show up better. The pattern with the nine pointed star around the hub indicates that the build is going correctly.

All of the preparation work of measuring and calculation has created a soke length that goes just to the rim at the spoke hole.
