Hi! Need Web Site Recommendations To Purchase Biking Gear

Hi, All!

I got into biking a month ago, using my friend's extra bike, and just ordered one for myself! Having said that, I'm going to need riding essentials.

I'm looking to purchase a bike pump, front and rear lights, gloves, a helmet, chain-cleaning tools, chain lube, etc.

Can you guys please recommend any web sites that sell quality bicycle gear at affordable prices? I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance.

You're shooting yourself in the foot if you don't establish a relationship with a good local bike shop (LBS).

That doesn't mean you spend every penny of your biking dollars there, but for key things like a helmet you'll spend MORE on shipping helmets back and forth to find what fits well/comfortably than you'll save buying online.

As you didn't mention what country you live in the following may or may not be appropriate, but check out places such as nashbar.com, performancebike.com, bike24.com, wiggle.com, or even rei.com and dicksportinggoods.com

Agreed, at the very least you should be buying a helmet locally. Otherwise an obvious website to add to the good list given above is Amazon.

You can also just use Google (or your favorite search engine) to figure out which specific item intrigues you, and find the site with the best price.

I would add biketiresdirect.com to the above list (not to be confused with bikesdirect.com). They do sell more than tires, and sometimes have good specials. There is also bikeisland.com which is associated with bikesdirect.com

Try this thread, I think it'll have the information you're looking for:

Also, I've purchased all of my helmets from online retailers. Measure your head, use a sizing chart.

Thank you so much, SpeshulEd, Little Darwin, dr_Iha, and gpburdell! I really appreciate all the advice.

I'm in Los Angeles, CA, by the way.
