Jamis Bicycles...............
Just wondering what the general consensus is regarding this brand. I'm seriously considering either the Xenith comp road bike or the Renegade gravel/road bike.
Best of all, my dealer is about 5 minutes from my home.
Cheers

I have a general understanding that Jamis and Giant come up with the best component mix at any price point. This may have changed over the years, but I still consider them very good value.

I agree with Wingsprint - a lot of value for money spent. I own two Jamis bikes and love them both. If the dealer is only 5 minutes from your home then it's an even better deal. My LBS is a Jamis dealer, and their service after the sale has been exemplary. You should expect 2 years of regular service included with the price of the bike at no additional cost.

My Jamis is a Sputnik fixed gear. I have really enjoyed the bike and think that it was/is a good value. Finish is acceptable, components were good enough at the price point.

Remember that many brands may use the same frame that was welded up in Asia. In many cases different brands only mean different paint and decal. Pick the bike that has the componets that you like.

Jamis is one of the few mainstream brands out there still making seriously good quality steel frame bikes (yes, they make aluminum and CF ones too). I think they're just dandy, and bought the wife one.

I currently ride a Xenith Comp 2014 and I'm super happy with it. I upgraded from a 2013 Ventura Sport, which I also liked a lot. I think it's a great brand.

Long story short... I just bought my first new bike in many, many years. I was looking for a "do it all" bike that was comfortable for daily commuting but you could drop the saddle bags and go for a long ride on the weekends or hit a trail if you want, you get the idea. I tested a Trek Crossrip, a Cannondale Synapse, a Specialized Diverge, a Surly Cross Check, and a Jamis Renegade.
I bought the Jamis. Some bikes had better components, better brand name, etc. But, to me, I felt that the Jamis had the best bang for the buck of all the bikes I rode.
Right now, I've put about 700 miles on my bike and I've been a happy camper. I hope this helps your decision.

Love my Satellite, even though it has a triple! CF post and bars and a nice saddle and it's a 19 pounds of 61cm steel sweetness.

No Jamis Factory per se, the Importer-distributor contracts out the Manufacturing .. The bike Biz Does a Lot of that .
back to the (Bike brand) owners checking in ..

I test rode 10 or so different adventure/gravel road bikes.
I was about to buy a Jamis Renegade, because even though the other bikes were in prettier colors, I liked the ride on the Renegade the best.
Then I heard the voices of BikeForum gods in my head whispering "It's made in Asia.... it's made in Asia". I looked more closely at the frame, then I saw the MADE IN TAIWAN sticker.
I ran out of the bike shop screaming "The HORROR! OH THE HORROR!!!!". So great was my shock and dismay that I ran across a four lane road full of traffic. and caused 3 car accidents.

I may be the only person on BF who had an '85 Jamis Gentry -a MTB-based city bike. Got almost ten years of good use out of that bike.
