Need advice on a starting point.
Hey guys I was looking to either upgrade the bike I have or buy a used bike to fix up and make into a fixie. Based on what I have read online people saying to stick with what I got and slowly build a new bike. But the schwinn volare 1300 got some reviews saying that certain things needed to be upgraded like the wheels, brakes, and saddle. Is that bike worth my time or just find something in a junkyard or craigslist?

Building a bike can be fun and rewarding in a personal satisfaction way. Building a bike is not something you do to save money as a primary goal, most of the time you can buy a production bike cheaper. The volare getting reviews that say the wheels, saddle and brakes need to be upgrades is not that unusual and not much to be overly concerned about...there are no entry level bikes out there that folks would say do not need those things...if it fits, gets you where you want to go, does the things you want to do, ride it.
As you ride, pay attention to the things that you think need improvement, things that you would like to be different, and get your next bike with that in mind.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.
The nice thing about acquiring another bike for converting into a fixed speed is that you'll still have a bike to ride during the process.
Aside from that, I say "Just do it!" There will never be a shortage of folks telling you that something either can't or shouldn't be done. Just do it. You'll figure it out. If you should happen to get seriously stumped, post back and we'll get you re-started.
