Sometimes, when riding my bike, if I see girls, I wave.

I think it's only courteous and being a good bicycling ambassador.
Sometimes they wave back, sometimes not. Sometimes they say things, though I often can't hear what they are saying. But overall, I think I'm doing the right thing. And I really enjoy when they wave back!



Do you ever do this? If you are a female, do you wave at guys, or is this an entirely different scenario? I guess waving at guys is not necessary, sort of like throwing gas on the fire. Probably you are working hard just to discourage them. (That explains why I get so many cold responses, myself.)

I'm considering starting a thread to see how many of us wave to vehicles with a weight between 3 and 4.7 tons, between the hours of 2am and 5am, on Wednesdays when there has been a full moon the previous Thursday.

I'll start a thread about the method of waving.
Do you bring your hand up to your shoulder and then twist it from the wrist or do you keep you hand below your shoulder level and instead wiggle your arm from the elbow. Or do you do either vice versa? Which method of waving do you utilize for which kind of people?

I think we should have a new section in the forums dedicated to these waving related threads.

As long as you're waving your hand. When I was young, a long...long... time ago. I was often waved at with other more personal objects, some large, some small. In fact, if there are any young chickadees out there, do you gals run into this problem? I'm wondering if it's my age, or just the fact that sex is more readily available today. OR, the guys just figure they won't be scaring any innocent girls (are there any over age 13?) Oh well, I remember the good old days.

Once a long time ago, I was riding my Honda 350 and waved at a guy coming toward me on a Harley-Davidson. He shot me the finger, and I've never waved at anyone since.

I think that depends on where you live and which side of the road you drive/ride on. In N. America, I think most of us drive on the right side (I say most because we have to take drunk drivers into consideration), and we use our left hand to wave.

If we were to live in England (they drive/ride on the left side right?), i would assume that they would use their right hand to wave.

raise your arm the elbow should be perpendicular to the shoulder, then just twist your hand just the hand and you will be waving like a King or aqueen or better still look or try to study the way QEII do her waving.

if you guys aren't going to take this question seriously.....
true story. there is a stretch of road construction that is ~ 1/8 mile long on my route. after waving and smiling at the flag girl the first day, she radio's the other side, turns her STOP sign to a SLOW sign and holds up the cars coming from the other direction for me every morning now even though i am the only one coming from my direction.
now that is clout. see what a wave can do?
