Who rides with a action camera?
Looking to replace my poloroid xs100 action cam which died. It was a good cam but only lasted about 1.5 years of average fair weather use before it wouldnt charge or work any longer. I think i paid 100 bucks.
That said, id like to fine something else. I like recording my rides in case something happens. Its documented. Also...its kind of fun to rewatch them.
I ride mostly road.
I am thinking of getting a poloroid cube+
From what i read its extremely tiny and it appears to have much better picture clarity than the gopro etc.
The cons are how the heck do you mount it? THe bar mount looks horrible and the reviews support that. It has an internal magnet so you could stick it on the bike somwhere but something tells me it would rotate and move around too much.
Perhaps a Garmin Mount off the bars using a male garmin disc glued or modified to stick to the magnet? That seems like it would be good.
Another con is some users are saying it saves the video files in 5 minute chunks vs one long file. This could be both a pro and a con i guess.
The battery life seems to only last about 1.5 hours or so. Id like something that will last at least 3. I have read that you can use an external battery pack charger to make it run longer. Given the garmin mount idea above...if the garmin bar mount sticks out far enough you could rubber band a small battery pack charger onto the mount for extra battery life i guess.
Does anyone here use the Poloroid cube? What are your experiences with it?

BTW Always mount a front-facing camera on your helmet;
- The human head vibrates a *lot* less than a bike frame.
- The audio on a bike-mounted camera will be mostly the vibrations coming through the frame.
- A helmet camera always focuses on what has your attention.

Not really. Nothing on cycling with one....or mounting options.
I agree on the helmet mounts but again....mounting options? I guess i was looking for comments from people that are running them to see how their experience has been. They certainly do have the size and clarity sorted out. My old poloroid sound was horrible. THis one gets bad reviews on its audio as well and im not concerned about audio so much with it mounted to the bike or helmet.

Ditto the Techmoan reviews, which includes cheap lightweight cameras that work fairly well.
Depending on the bike and mount, handlebar mounts can work okay. I don't get nearly as much frame vibration and noise with the handlebar mount as with the camera mounted on the head tube. Mostly I picked up horrific teeth chattering grinding noises that made the bike sound like it was falling apart.
Mounted as near center as possible, you'll get less dizzying horizon swooping around. My last homebrewed handlebar mount was centered over the stem, but I broke the nylon zip ties holding it together -- fortunately, while the camera wasn't mounted.
Bike Blogger on YouTube used a chest mount for awhile. Great for his narrated rides and the videos were steady. Might not be the best for documenting rides where you need to record license plates in case of an accident. The rider's arms often block part of the view. He's recently added a rear facing frame mounted camera.

cube only lasts for about 1.5 hours and doesn't take replacement batteries. no good for riding. I use gopro hero 3 white. lasts 3 hours per battery and I take 2 extra batteries. always runs perfectly and has many options for mounting
