Top Down Cycling
On my ride in to work this morning I noticed they took the top off the Velodrome, here in Colorado Springs, home to one of the Olympic Training Centers. Last fall for the first time in its 33-year history the 7-11 Velodrome was enclosed under an inflatable dome, like the kind they use to enclose football and soccer fields. This was to enable its use year round. My wife and I had seen all sorts of construction around the periphery, but assumed it was landscaping. Then one fall morning as I rode to work, there was this giant white blimp-like structure where the Velodrome was supposed to be.Then one winter evening riding home in the dark it was brightly lit, as the stadium lights are outside the translucent dome. It turns out there are new lights that are inside the dome as well. Anyway, this morning as I approached Memorial Park I didn't see the dome, but did see the track looking the same as it had for the last 24-years I've been living here. The only evidence of the dome were a couple of giant blowers. Anyways, here's a pic from this morning, and one from last fall aft the enclosure went up.

I have only seen cycling and roller skating (inline & traditional) going on in there. Both training and competition. But that's it. Apparently they now have a Facebook page with photos: https://www.facebook.com/otcvelodrome/
