Straps for trunk bike rack

I've got a second hand trunk rack that has cradles, but no built in rubber straps like the ones most racks have. I've been tying the bikes down with the extra length of nylon straps that hold the rack to the car, but that is kind of cumbersome. What do you recommend for quickly and safely securing the bikes to the rack? Short nylon straps, bungees (maybe EPDM material), rope, etc?

Thank you.

Ever heard of velcro straps? They're everywhere! Do a quick Google search.

I've still got the original straps for my rack but I would not hesitate to use the velcro straps if mine got lost.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Velcro straps would be great, but all the velcro cinch straps or lashing straps I've seen don't look very strong. They're meant for either keeping the front wheel from rotating, or even just cable ties. Do you know of any that you would trust to hold a bike to the rack for long trips?

Similar concern with the Surly Junk straps. Do you think they're strong enough?

For the replacement straps suggested by dedhed.. They sure would be convenient, but I'm not sure if they'd be compatible with my rack. I guess I could just order them and hope for the best, but I'd rather be sure.

Thanks again.

The velcro straps come in all sorts of strengths, widths or lengths. I like the ones that are sewn onto nylon strapping.
