The usual with a slight odd variation to avoid the endless construction of a new storm sewer vault where the pavement (???) is potholed, heaved rutted, and detours over railroad tracks and a 5 foot, if that, sidewalk with a telephone pole in the middle (they did put padding around it like you'd see around ski-lift towers). Only to be about a mile and a half from home: Is that a flat I ask me fellow rider. "Yes, but only the front! Maybe you can give it a temp inflate and make it home" Inflate got me another five blocks. Oh, let's try another temp inflate. Speed up the last of the climb, run a red light carefully and make it home with mushy tire to spare. Okay, time to ditch these flat prone tires and let the bike shop do it for me. A little, tiny thorn.
Okay, 16.6 and 670 feet of climbing. Chilly and the right toes did not enjoy the last half of the ride.

23 miles today. Only two icy patches of note on the trails and the adjacent grassy areas were manageable so I went around them.

Finished off my 6th consecutive 1000+km month with my second metric century of January. Still a little chilly as temperatures stayed below 5 degrees all day, but at least the rain that had been sticking around most of the week was pretty much gone.

17 miles. Mostly sunny, mid 30s F and plenty of wind. A bit of mud but cold enough things weren’t real soft. It ended up being a good workout. 😀

It hasn't been a great week for riding. Temperatures as low as -25C plus wind chills down to -35C, some snow, and unsafe road surfaces. Not wanting to land in an Omicron infested hospital, I decided to hike on the local mountain with my wife this week, all told 50 km of hiking in 6 outings, 2723 m of vertical. It was spectacularly beautiful and a nice break from cycling, first week without riding since February 2021. It was my first time hiking in about 3 years. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but then realized how much easier it was having lost about 20 lbs since the last time I hiked. I was doing PRs all week on some stiff climbs.
Here are a few pics from the week:

Same old, same old loop. About 15 miles and 600 feet of gain.
But for a day that was suppose to rain - not bad. Not bad at all. Well, other than I lost one screw from my SPD cleat and when attempting to release. the shoe swiveled but the cleat stayed engaged by one screw. This follows the flat tire the other day. So, the weather was fine, the shoe, not so much.

21 Miles I.D. 16" of snow forecasted mid-late this week. I may be less on the trainer & more behind the shovel.

Zero - rest day. Yesterday was a hard 22 ID with 1500’ climbing with a fine Canadian lad determined to beat me to the summit of the volcano. He won pulling 6.2 W/Kg with 200’ to go.
Instead I pruned garden shrubs and grasses for 4 hours with at least another 30 hours to go. Pictured is gardening assistant.

twenty-four miles spread out between two, highly scenic, out of town rides.

180 Watts or 2.5 W/Kg for an hour covering 25 imaginary miles with Cadence. The last 10 minutes didn’t feel that great but hung in there.
