While riding with fellow forum member Ivan Hanz yesterday, I witnessed him being chased by a rooster. It had a human limb hanging from it's mouth from it's last victim. (Ivan, did I get that part right?)

more cattle egrets again, a scared witless cottontail, two mallards that made me ride around them (twice), and a fat man on a pocket bike.

could have done without the pocket bike. weedwhacker, anyone? on a non-motorized trail, no less.

I saw a little dog two feet from my face, barking at me out the window of a car that was passing by. I saw a bunch of kids on BMX bikes, using them for transportation and not doing any tricks. I also passed the same old dude on a mountain bike a few times.

Best part: I saw a group of geese with adorable fuzzy goslings in a little park by my house.

So many Canadian Geese! It was like a bad Hitchcock "The Birds" with those big, lumbering geese instead of those pigeons from the movie. They wouldn't move out of the way for anything!

On my ride on Friday I saw a young buck whitetail running diagonally toward the road and realized that we might collide. I was riding with the wind at my back and cruising along at about 24 mph. The deer jumped onto the road in about ten feet in front of me but couldn't jump back off the road because of a small stream. It ran down the road about ten feet in front of me for 100-200 yards, its hooves clicking on the pavement, until finally it found a spot to bound off into the brush. Very cool riding partner.

A couple of years ago on a ride on the Virginia Creeper railtrail with my kids, we came to one section where there was a tall rock wall cut out of the mountian on one side and a rushing mountain stream on the other. There was a canopy of rhododenren bushes over us, and the bushes had completely covered the path with white flower petals. It was like riding through a dream.

About a dozen guys go down in a big pileup. It was ugly: a couple of broken bones, a couple of unrideable bikes, and a lot of roadrash. I was very lucky. I locked up my rear wheel and skidded sideways but managed to keep it upright and not smash into anybody in front and lucky that nobody smashed into me from the rear. Scary, scary, scary.

Stone walls. Miles of stone walls along farm fields and pastures.
And along the walls, trees and wildflowers.
And behind the walls, horses, cows, barns and old farm houses.

Lake Michigan, many cyclists and walkers, a big 'ol carp sitting under the warm water surface in the harbor, sailboats, and then something that made me do a serious double take on the latter part of the ride....a person walking a dog sporting "male pattern baldness", but when I took a closer look the person had wide hips and bre@sts ! Whoa...it took a few seconds for that one to compute!

I raced two rabbits down an old farm rode till they split off down the ditch. Man they can run (50km/h). Passed a farm tractor. Just another day in the prairies.

A line of black helicopters flying over DC. Three larger passenger type, escorted by two smaller ones with pods mounted on the underside, either weapons or communications.
Government VIP and party.

And frogs hopping on the trail.

I saw roadies! Some real roadies in my neighborhood for the holiday weekend.
Imagine that.
I made sure I gave the nod or the wave. We wouldn't want them to think the locals are unfriendly.
I saw another Litespeed too. We exchanged big smiles.

Actually the ride was yesterday, but my friend and I stopped at a local park to watch some nesting Egrits in a tree, we saw ducks in the lake, squirrels near the road (lots of road kill unfortuately) and beautiful trees. We saw quite a few other cyclist on our way out and said Hi to all of them. Stopped and talked to two cyclist at our turn around point. We had started out at 7:30 am to beat the head and beat the traffic, made for a nice day.

A guy straddling one of those oil derricks that looks like a bird pecking at the ground. Then he slid off, butt first, and landed below. Went around two groups of ducks. Shared a trail with a foot race and passed groups of people yelling stuff like "good job!"

Cattle, horned larks, lark buntings, pronghorn antelope, cactus and no houses. And my wife's rear end as she smoked me up a hill.
