Favorite mini pump?
Been having a lot of flats for the first time and I've been without a pump on me. Just wondering what mini pump you guys carry on you and whether you like it, or not.
I got this:
http://www.lickbike.com/lickimages/3492.gif lightweight and supposedly pumps up to 140psi. |
Topeak road morph, generally accepted to be the best pump to carry around. Check the road cycling forum.
I like the Crank Brothers Power Pump because of the gauge, the ability to switch between high volume/high pressure, and it can hadle both Presta and Schrader valves. Which is a plus for me with Presta on the bike and Schrader on the utility trailer. :)
Thanks everyone. I'm gonna ride to some bike shops tomorrow and see what they have and how much. I looked on Nashbar and they have some very good prices. I like the idea of the guage on the pump and saw one of those on Nashbar. Thanks.

I'd avoid minipumps without a hose--they can damage your stem. Look at the Topeak RoadMorph or MountainMorph. They can get the tires up to 120 psi, they have hoses, and they are relatively compact.

I use the torelli aria but its really only a backup if the CO2 fails or runs out. Aria requires lots of pumping but it does work :D
Topeak Road Morph here. Like it.
Road morph here as well...
Topeak road morph if you want to mount it to your bike (They make one with a gauge, which isn't terribly accurate), the Crank Bros. compact pump if it needs to go in a seatbag or jersey pocket, and the Zefal HpX if you want a classic framefit pump, which isn't really 'mini' but a pretty good pump.
The Crank Brothers pump is the smallest pump I have ever seen, has selectable valve type and volume/pressure.
http://www.crankbrothers.com/powerpump_ultra.php Perfect for a saddle bag. |
Topeak turbo morph w/digital gauge. :)
Topeak road morph for life!!
crank bros. power pump alloy.

Topeak Road Morph

Another vote for the Topeak Road Morph. High pressure. Handles presta and schrader. Flexible hose. And it has a fold-down foot rest so it can act like a floor pump. Really helps the arms with that. :)
I've the Planet Bike Mini-Versair. It doesn't have the pressure gauge, but I can usually tell if the tire is stiff enough from the feel.
TOPEAK MINI MASTER BLASTER PUMP
It's cheap, tough, and it works. I hate spending much on a mini pump and then loosing it or having it stolen. I have two, and both have worked very well for the last couple years. |

Crank Bros power pump. Can't say I *like* it, but I dislike it less strongly than any of the alternatives I've tried.
Topeak Turbo Morph with digital gauge, best mini pump ever made imo.
Well, it looks like everyone really like the Topeak Morph pumps. I was looking on Nashbar and I saw that they had the Topeak Mountin Morph pump. I looked on the Topeak site and tried to see what the difference between the Mountain Morph and the Road Morph was. The only thing I noticed was that the Road Morph was 20 grams lighter than the Mountain Morph. Is that all? Thanks.
I think (but I may be wrong here, so others, please correct me if I'm wrong) that the Road Morph is a little skinnier, which might mean that you'd have to use a few more strokes to get your tire up to pressure.

Here are the specs for the Topeak Morphs...from their website
ROAD MORPH Folding foot support and flexible hose easily convert frame pump into a road-side floor pump Aluminum barrel for long pump life Inflates up to 160 psi Padded T-handle provides a comfortable hand position while inflating Quickly converts between Presta & Schrader valves Equipped with clamp mount for multi-position frame mounting Size(LxWxH): 12.7 x 2.26 x 1.1 Weight: 230 grams, Clip Wt: 25 grams MOUNTAIN MORPH Mountain Morph The best pump for the trail. Fill fat tires super fast. Fold-out foot pad and hose turn this into a trailside floor pump. Folding foot support and flexible hose easily convert frame pump into a trail-side floor pump Aluminum barrel for long pump life Inflates up to 160psi Padded T-handle provides a comfortable hand position while inflating Quickly converts between Presta & Schrader valves Equipped with adjustable quick release clamp for multi-position frame mount Size(LxWxH): 12.7 x 2.3 x 1.22 Weight: 250 grams, Clip Wt: 25 grams So from that...all I can see is that the MOUNTAIN MORPH is a TINY bit wider and a little HEAVIER... also, upon checking...the one I use for my track bike is the MOUNTAIN MORPH...they both rock though! |
Crank Bros power pump because it is the smallest pump available and fits inside my saddle bag. Not very confortable to use but it works fine in case of emergency.
