13ft/mi for me in 2016. I do most of my riding in the bottom of a very large valley.

We need a tune to go with this;
This should work:

For the past 20 years, have averaged 4000 - 5000 km per year.
Part commuting, part utility and part recreational riding.

Average hours per year might be a better metric, that way mountain bikers don't get left behind and likewise trainer hours would count.

I'm on track for 4500 this year.

The past three years were just north of 7,000 miles. This year is safely on track to meet/exceed the same mark. Right now I am at 6,500 plus some change. Getting about 140-160 miles each week. No big goals, don't Strava, no organized events, and no competition, just really enjoy riding my bikes

I feel like a lightweight in this company. Between 2200 and 2500 a year.

In last ten years least was 6000, most 8400, fractured hip on Labor Day with 5035, now at 5785, will make 6000 easily again.
I'm 72 and ride daily, much to my wife's chagrin! She says I'm addicted, lol.

It varies (unfortunately) widely from year to year, but for the last five years, I'd say my average is right around 1800 miles a year.

Average? I end up somewhere between 2000 km and 14,000 km.

Took off this year hoping to gain some endurance when I begin again in Jan 2017.

Average 7500 miles before that.

Nah, the fact you are out cycling at all is what is most important. The mileage shouldn't be an issue, feeling good about your cycling is the primary objective, IMHO.

3000 or so per year. I've never kept track until I starting using strava 2 years ago. This year, I finally made it to 4000 as a goal.

I've been averaging 8,000 to 9,000 miles over the past few years. This year will be a 10,000 mile year. Currently at 9,567 miles or 660 hours and 57 min (according to Strava).

I'm relatively new at this-- my 2-year cycling anniversary comes up on January 18th-- but I did 7,700 my first year, and am sitting just shy of 11,000 so far this year with one month to go, which should average out to about 9,800 a year if the month goes normally. Had my sights set on an even 12,000 for this year, but some small totals in January and October I think put it out of reach.

6,000+ miles the last few years but will end up about 700 miles short of that this year.

4923 miles so far on my Bike Friday this year. Gotta push hard the next couple weeks to set a new standard to beat in 2017. Does the fact that my bike has 20" wheels count for more miles, lolz???

I don't have any goals in this regard. I'll do ~3000 miles commuting, pretty easily. Then, maybe another 1000 or so recreationally. Purely a guess, though.


I rarely ride for "fun" unless it's with others - mountain biking or a day ride to some destination or some such. Becoming a bike commuter has taking the cycling starch out of me.

I've averaged 4400 annually since 2011, 6949 over the last 3 years since deciding to get back in shape during the fall of 2013. Until the end of 2010 I hadn't used a bike computer since my Avocet died in the mid 1990s.

5266 miles in 2014 (lost time to cancer)
7261 miles in 2015 (lost time to a broken collarbone)
8370 miles in 2016 (no excuses)

I just started riding daily this year, so I can only answer that I've ridden something like 1375 miles this year. I hope to surpass that next year.

I'm too new at only 3.5 years. I'm at 580, 1000, 353, 1890 for the 3.5 years. Bought a kayak last year and only rode the 353. First year at 580 was only 3 months starting the end of August. 1000 was my first full year and this year instead of thinking a 30 mile ride was a really long ride, I started regularly riding 65 mile rides on the weekends. Can't average them out as the improvement in my cycling changed enormously through these 3.5 years.

Next year will be some week long trips which will add probably my usual decent month number in just a week to the totals, so I expect more next year.

Late to this but I imagine my milage is 'average', btw. 2500-3000 miles/yr., probably 3.5 times cycling/wk. 50-60 miles/wk. A few lazy skip days/wks. every now and then but at least 80% of time I get the ride in. I never ride slow, mostly moderate/fast but rarely ride all out, due to my age, pushing 50 y/o. My 'fitness' is proportional to my devotion, about 10 -15 lbs. too heavy to be a badass cyclist and 'not quite' 3 watts/kilo, more like 2.25. Resting HR 52-56 bpm in mornings. (40-60 is the range for 'Athletes'). At 6'4" 215 lbs, I'd say I'm just your 'avg. fit recreational cyclist'. Not too bad, nowhere near great. I can't keep up with the fastest group riders. Few can.

Since the zombie has arisen and no one bit on this, my answer is 135 million million miles, or barely over 7 parsecs. If you took all of indyfabz' mole of air, and laid the O2 and N2 molecules touching each other in a line, that's how long the line is. Unless my arithmetic is off, because that still seems like a long way.

For reference, that's 28 grams of air.
