I see no reason to keep my bikes in the house. I keep my motorcycles and cars in the garage that are far more valuable than my bicycles, so why would I not keep them in the garage as well? ****, I keep my bikes in my shed from time to time as well.

Some comedians are able to incorporate sarcasm into their routine to generate laughs. They have a knack. You don't. Yours is just negative and not off-putting. Contrary to what you probably believe, the only one you are entertaining is yourself.

I live just a few miles from you in St.Pete, and have been keeping my bikes in my attached garage for over 30 years with zero issues. One of my bikes is over 30 years old and there's nothing wrong with it, other than wiping the dust off it once a year, its just fine. I also live about 2 blocks away from a saltwater canal, no corrosion on any of my 3 bikes.

Funny how different people read different things ... That's one thing I hope we have all learned from text-based communication ... so much meaning is conveyed in Other than words, and without all that extra meaning, the listener can infer all kinds of things the speaker never implied.

As I read it, the poster was saying that s/he had a significant amount of bicycle out in a garage ... meaning that in his/her opinion, there was nothing wrong with storing a sizable chunk of bicycle value in the garage. The monetary value didn't come off at all as a boast to me, but as a necessary clarification of how okay the poster felt with bikes being stored in a garage. Sort of saying, "I have wagered 20 grand on garage storage ... I have definitely put my money where my mouth is."

S/he didn't say if it was four $5K bikes, or ten $200 Walmart bikes ... or in any way brag about the value, or act as though s/he was special or superior because s/he and his/her family had whatever number of bikes ... The monetary amount specified was included so that it would be clear that this person was serious to that degree about trusting garage storage ... and while I don't really get upset about numbers, I have to say, $20 K is a sizable chunk of bicycle change.

Obviously it makes a difference if I say "Yeah, a garage is fine ... I store my $60 yard-sale Huffy with a cracked frame in my garage," or if I say, "I have a dozen bikes which all get ridden frequently, in my garage." You can see that, right? Equally, it is different if I say I store a $60 Huffy or a Super Six, A Colnago C60, A Dogma F8, and a Venge in my garage. Not in any way bragging, but because it so clearly demonstrates the level of trust I have in garage storage.

I didn't take the post to mean anything in any way bragging, or putting down any one else ... just the poster making it clear how much s/he trusted the safety of garage storage.

Funny how differently we interpret things.

I admit I don't have a bike in my Fla place, but I don't think I would worry about it. Our place is in West Pasco County, maybe 2.5 miles from the Gulf? I would worry more about the heat in the garage in the summer than anything else, though they did have some areas that flooded out in New Port Richey this summer due to hurricane. I store an old Triumph TR-6 in the garage, seems none the worse for it. In general, though, plastic does not like the heat there.

Bike goes in the house. I lived along the coast in South Carolina. Same deal. If you value your bike, find room for it. The humidity and the salt air will eat it alive. And as Scott967 said, and I agree, the heat from a garage in the South can cause problems with the bike to. I moved From Arizona back in July and it routinely hit 115+ in my garage. I couldn't keep my 1971 TR-6 in the house and she hated being in the garage. I'm just now starting to see the damage that 5 years of Arizona heat has done to the vinyl and rubber parts...and that car is my daily driver...no joke. My bike cable housings and brake pads will get changed this winter and the bearings re-packed to.

Keep it in the garage, but build a roll-in box for it, wide enough for the handlebars. Build it out of plywood. Seal it. Paint or varnish it. Put a https://www.amazon.com/Goldenrod-725...d+dehumidifier in it. GTG!

That yacht is not a good place to keep your expensive bikes, too much humidity, it can creep into the bottom bracket bearings and cause premature bearing sclerosis. When I'm not riding I keep mine in the jet and the jet stays above 30, 000 feet where the air is dry.

I live in Jacksonville and keep all of my bikes in the garage and have never had an issue related to humidity or corrosion.
