Identify This Schwinn?

I found this on CL and all the posting says is "Schwinn Bike". Anyone know what model this is?

Bikes: '68 Raleigh Sprite, '02 Raleigh C500, '84 Raleigh Gran Prix, '91 Trek 400, 2013 Novara Randonee, 1990 Trek 970

Safety levers, stem shifters, not too high up the food chain.

Steel rims and what looks like a cotterless steel crankset. That last part is pretty unusual. Definitely low end, but that crank should help isolate which model and year it is. Not worth investigating unless you absolutely must know. I'd pass unless I wanted that specific bike.

'88 Caliente, maybe.

Vintage bike forum could probably be more help, but I'm going to guess late 70s or early 80s. One of their models made by Panasonic like the Le Tour.

I'm guessing a Le Tour.

Has a better ride quality than the Varsinentals - and man, those were heavy, dead-feeling bikes! ;-)

Bikes: Fillet-brazed Schwinns

That's definitely not a LeTour. I agree with thumpism in that it is probably a Caliente except that I think it is an '89. Note that was the absolute bottom end of the Schwinn lineup at that time. I'd take a classic electro-forged Varsity over that bike any day!
