Is this bike a knockoff? Specialized Allez (Looking to buy first road bike)

Hi everyone, I am trying to purchase my first road bike and while browsing my local classifieds I found an ad for a Specialized Allez for $140, which seemed to be a great deal. I asked for pictures and received this photo which looks pretty suspicious, the logo seems to be painted on and the shifters seem to be a grip/twist-shift, which I don't believe they made for the Specialized Allez before (although I could be wrong).

Am I wrong in saying that this bike is not a Specialized Allez, and that the seller is trying to pass off another bike as one? Photo seems pretty sketch to me, what do y'all think? Seller claims he repainted the frame and painted on the decals, still seems strange though.

EDIT: Can't post photos yet so I put the link in my bio under my username.

My guess is you're looking at a GMC Denali.

Probably worth somewhere around $100 if in reasonably good condition and complete.

For the most part, I dislike fakes , so I'd probably offer $50 for the bike.

Suspicious, that is an understatement.

I wonder if he would repaint bikes for hire...

As shown, it isn't worth $25

That's the worst looking attempt at a re-badge Denali I've even seen.

Tell him for $100 you won't report him for attempted fraud.

I love the shifters on the tops.

I think that this bike is in a category LOWER than a GMC Denali. That someone would put the effort into repainting it (apparently by spitting the paint on) is just.... sad. Agree with others: walk away.

In the local CL they pop up from time to time. At least around here they just remove the Denali decal and put on another...usually Cannondale for some reason.

Report it to Specialized. They love suing people who infringe on their brand. You may have a case.

For $140, you can get a decent classic road bike in better shape than that thing

If you post a general location, size, and a budget, folks are generally happy to go over your local CL and point out decent options.

Now I know why Tom Dumoulin had to stop for a nature break in yesterday's Giro stage due to an upset stomach. Someone showed him that picture

FWIW, I've seen people re-badge cheaper bikes into something that they are not before. Usually it's some nice-but-not-THAT-nice Japanese road bike turned into an "expensive Italian". This, OTOH, is somebody trying to turn a $50 bike into just a $150 bike. Makes no sense, committing a felony (fraud) for a measly $100.....

They should at least try to pass it off as a Colnago.......

They would probably consider doing it. In all seriousness though, unlike this particular case, what pops up as fakes being sold as legitimate is a huge problem for them and for the the consumers wishing to purchase the real thing or knowingly purchasing fakes.
