I've been using Photobucket since I went digital (back in 2002) for posting photos in the Web (not for archiving photos).

In the last 2-3 years, I've noticed a lot of changes on how the site operates, always for the worse (unresponsive pages, waaaay too many ads). Last week the performance was dismal. I was getting text instead of html.

I haven't got a ransom notice yet and last night everything was back to 'normal'.

I can't think of more negative publicity than the 'speedometer' for a website. What genius thought of this! Come and look what we do to our members (free or otherwise). Brilliant!

The downsizing for the photos has been going on for some time. It used to be that you could upload a full resolution photo and it would be displayed in 1024x1024 max (i.e. 1024 for the long side), but you could press a 'button' and download the full resolution version (which was stored). They stopped this sometime last year.

I haven't been uploading photos in PB since...

Just a FYI - My photobucket storage wasn't at max, and my pics still showed after others got the speedometer. I made the mistake of getting on photobucket yesterday thinking I was under the radar because of my storage not being full, and right away my forum pics disappeared. If your photobucket pics are still here, best not to get on their site and send up a red flag !

My Fartybucket pix are still showing up here (even with a cleared browser cache). But I suspect it's temporary. Photobrokeit is rolling out this disaster gradually. I just received an email notifying me of the "third party hosting" violation. So it's just a matter of time before I get the speedometer icon.

I got the love note from Photobucket yesterday. I did visit my account, but so far my photos haven't been blocked. Just a matter of time.

I added a new photo to see if it works...

Been using PB since they were new. Have hundreds of photos on forums that have since been blocked. I see Google gives free photo hosting, so I'm moving all my pics there. PB is being a real pain in the ass. All that effort to share work, help others, ruined by PB wanting users to use only links. No way am I going back and update posts from years ago.

They may not have caught up to you yet. It is showing up all over different sites. Most of the comments I read are that Photobucket wants you to buy a ridiculous $299 paid version to do 3rd party links. I have about 40 photos on the site. Copied all of them to a thumb drive and intend to move them elsewhere and close the account. You can still post links to the pictures on the site but the number of really obnoxious ads has increased to the point that I no longer want to be a customer of theirs. Uploading pictures has also gotten to be a PIA as well. I guess that's a great way to destroy a business from the comments I read.

You can download individual photos. I don't think you can download a whole album, though.

Glad that all the images I have on PB still reside on my PC and backup drive.

I had a friend who used one image in his signature and he got bit early on. I think he hotlinked the image from some other account and found it on a search engine. He gave up on it.

On the other hand another member of that site lost their sigpic of their photo with the members of Yes. That site has it's own storage, I hope they have the original.

Do you know what a 'Photobucket promo opportunity" would actually be?

It is simply that they have the right to use your stuff in their advertising?

Like a dating site or something would do?

I just posted a pb image in another thread and mine is still working. I hope they get to me because people seeing their garbage just makes them look bad. This is a topic in a couple other forums that I frequent.

Obvious computer-challenged question here: is it possible to copy all of my PB photos on a thumb drive, and if so, how? Sorry, told you I'm computer challenged.
Thanks.

You can bring up your image in pb, then if you're using windows click on download (lower right), then it will open your image in a new window. Right click on your image and select "save as". Then name it or keep the existing name and save it wherever you want. There may be other ways but I know that works.

Are your photos organized into albums? If they are you can you can download the entire album. Open the album from your Library, and under options is the choice of "Download Album". If your photos are not in an album, create an album (s) and move you pictures into it. select "Download" and go through their antics. Once it is downloaded to your "download" folder on your hard drive, you can copy and paste it to your thumb drive. That is if you cane wade through all their advertising popup!

It is a cumbersome process, but it seems to work.

I'm trying to download all my pictures on photobucket to my computer so I can close that account forever, but it won't even let me do that. Can't email them, nothing. It looks like I've lost all those pics forever unless I pay money to them.

Try the method I outlined above. I thought the same as you, but finally managed to get them downloaded.
