I've done volunteer work like that, just without the religious twist. It was a lot of fun, and I liked knowing those bikes were going to a good cause.

The shop I was at, every year reworked and cleaned up donated bikes and unclaimed stolen bikes from the police. The unclaimed stolen bikes suked, they sat out side for a year before we got them. Then we gave them to the local chapter of United Way for their christmas give-away.
