Not often. I use RideWithGPS on every ride. To get an idea of all the delicious information you can collect, see my profile.

Strava is pretty much the gold standard for cycling gps apps.
They have a big community where you can compare your time on certain segments with other riders in your area, you get personal record, etc. It all calculates those things for you after each ride. Pretty neat!

Tried them all, but still come back to Strava again and again. If you can get a hold of a code for a month of free premium you can try that out. Even the free basic plan is fantastic. Way more of a social cycling platform than the others. You can find local clubs and groups very easily. Segments are awesome, probably the best part IMHO.
If you have google chrome on your computer you can get the Stravistix plugin and you'll have more ride metrics and data than you know what to do with.
There are a ton of great apps that utilize the Strava API that make the experience even better. Relive is a good one.

Most people I know are on it. It's a fun way to see where your friends are riding.

Strava works for me.
Since i'm NOT a social media guy, i made all my activities private.

It's also a nice way to find new routes, especially when traveling to a new place.

I use Strava and also keep my routes and rides private. I also use it in conjunction with VeloViewer (www.veloviewer.com) to get more ways to display data. Helps me monitor improvement.

Meh... Probably someone who got your name from looking at a friend's ride. Or, Strava provides a list of "you ought to follow..." based on mutual connections. I doubt the kudos of a stranger matter to them, but it's kind of like waving. Some people do it just to be friendly.

I got kudos from people with very high follower counts. I guess it makes them feel good.
The only followers I want are the younger guys trying to catch up as I climb a hill.

I measure my rides against myself. There's always someone faster, even Peter Sagan doesn't win every stage.

We have a few segments around here that have been part of the Tour of California. I ride this segment all the time but I"m not likely to crack the top 10 anytime soon.

Speaking of segments, sometimes, ridewithgps pops up and congratulates me about being #613 on a segment. And there are 700 participants. Gee, thanks.
