I got a Venge (new) a couple years ago. However...I don't ride it much because it's my race bike that I leave set up for triathlon (and plus I love riding my old steel frames). I disagree with 'alcj' above...it can be set up for either road or TT/Tri. I use clip-on aero bars, and the seatpost is made in such a way that you can reverse it to change the geometry from road to TT/Tri (stem too). I really like the light weight, and the gearing. It is a fast bike IMO. It's been great for me in races. The only issue that I have with it...those times that I have taken it on long road rides...is all the aero components of it...frame, fork, seatpost, wheels. If you get in a crosswind it can really blow you around. In sustained crosswind I find myself having to ride tilted over.

Almost any road bike can be set up for time trials. That does not make them TT or Tri bikes. The OP seems to think that the Venge is a TT bike

My "kid's bike" (I own) is a 2015 Venge. He also road a Tarmac - "The Venge is faster, the Tarmac feels better".
If you ride solo and want to cover more ground - Venge.
In a group, I'd lean Tarmac.
The 2015 Venge had hardened plates on the dropouts that would allow a non serrated hub to come out under lots of torque/power. This would not be a problem for a typical rider.
