The ride quality difference of a LHT vs Disc Trucker and 26” vs 700c, all UNLOADED

I’ve seen it stated by at least one person on this forum, that when Surly made the disc version of their LHT, that the stiffening of the fork(at the very least) and possibly stiffening parts of the frame, had an adverse effect on ride quality.

Now some people will be more sensitive to a harsher ride than others, but for those who have had the chance to ride both the LHT and the Disc Trucker, I was wanting to get your insights as to how much(if at all), the ride characteristics became harsher on the Disc Trucker and if this is an even bigger issue if you are going either the 26” version of the 700c version of each bike.

Don’t know if it was the same person lamenting the change in ride characteristics due to stiffening up of the forks, or someone else, but I also recall reading on a forum that the 700c version of the Disc Trucker was adversely effected more than the 26” version.

You are looking for people who have ridden the 700c canti and disc versions of the LHT and also ridden the 26" versions?

Thats probably an extremely limited group.

Ive ridden the disc and canti versions of the 700c LHT, but never ridden a 26" LHT.

I'll take what I can get.

But your experience would be valuable to me.

Did you notice much/any ride quality difference between the canti version and the disc version?

Go over to the Adventure Cycling forum and talk to "Touring on a Bicycle." He is the expert on 26" LHT.

I couldnt tell the difference. I rode the disc bike for only a few miles of side streets though.

With that said, i have seen the fork blade difference that one builder uses for building canti and disc forks and the disc blade is certainly thicker and larger which makes it stiffer.

How to quantify that difference though, im not sure.
