I have lived with seasonal depression my whole life and this winter has not been good. I went down to Hampton New Hampshire on the 3rd and 4th to get away from the snow and get on my bike. Even though there was a nor' easter blowing the roads were dry at times. It was 35 - 40 F and no snow. It was refreshing.

We did not get a foot, but the weather turned from low 40s and melting to low 20s and snowing. We did get several inches. I'm afraid I let it get to me, and ended spending several days inside. Yesterday finally I forced myself to get out and walk.

If the snow is as deep as you-all are complaining about, get some cross country skis for wintertime fun.:thumb:

Yeah! Or snow shoes. I've been out breaking trail in this for the past 3 days. Great for keeping the cycling legs in shape.

That looks yummy ! What did you wash it down with ?

dennis336 03-08-18 08:46 AM

Well, roads got plowed pretty quickly - one of those very wet, heavy snowfalls ... will see how quickly I'll get out ... definitely by the weekend, maybe sooner if I recover from shoveling

Yikes, you go to the Northeast US in the middle of winter to "get away" from the snow. You must be in Canada eh?

Yep, there is a 20' + snowbank at the end of my driveway. I had to get a cat loader to plow this year. On the plus side the grandkids love the sliding hill. I can deal with cold I just hate snow. I couldn't even get the ambition this year to get out the skis. I drive a fuel oil truck for work and it has been a BRUTAL winter.

A good 40 mile ride tonight should cheer me up though.

You won't be so smug in Jul and Aug, when it's 95, temp and humidity, and it's 80 something with a cool breeze up her in the great white north!

I get the feeling. Even though the snow has melted, my new commute is just so far away, it isn't possible to ride my bike. I vow my next job will be within commuting distance.

This has been a cold rotten winter. I think most of us are really getting cabin fever.

Subaru. Because intelligent design can come with reliability.

I had a 2000 Subaru Forester that I had to rebuild the the transmission at 115K and put a used engine in it at 150K. The engines were known for head gasket failures and that's what did mine in. My daughter learned to drive in it and used it for college, then my wife gave her our 2008 RAV4, took the Forester back and drove it to 250K miles. I just gave it to my nephew a few months ago. My wife insisted on a Forester to replace it, so she now has a 2017 Forester 2.0XT.

Michigan too. It just doesn't stop snowing. So for now, the hamspter wheel (my magnetic trainer) until warmer weather arrives.

I know, right? Just when I thought maybe the melt had begun, we get another two weeks (so far) of cold and snow. I did at least take advantage of some business travel to somewhat warmer locations to get in some riding time.

dennis336 03-10-18 08:52 AM

I got out the day after our storm - 12 inches of snow but the next day the road were actually pretty good and temp in the low 40s. A few minor slushy spots and some others wet from snow melt but all in all not bad. Going out this weekend but, dang, I want the warm weather to come.

rachel120 03-12-18 11:31 AM

I'm temporarily depressed for the opposite reason.

Thursday - 45 at the beginning of my commute, 35 home. I dressed appropriately.

Saturday - 45 and 35 again. I dressed the same.

Yesterday - 45 and 35 again. I dressed the same, walked out and immediately roasted. By the time I changed to something a lot lighter I no longer had the time to commute by bike. Absolutely gorgeous day where commuting by bike would be a pleasure not a need, and I couldn't ride my bike because of poor wardrobe planning.

I'll trade you. expecting up to 16 inches of snow starting tonight. I think I will head back to NH this weekend.

2manybikes 03-13-18 06:16 AM

8 to 12 inches of snow and 40 mph gusts predicted here for today.

dennis336 03-13-18 08:56 AM

And winter will just not end:(
