I generally go with silver stuff on the basis of it getting scratched. I suppose spokes are quite well protected, given their area size.

Bikes: Some silver ones, a red one, a black and orange one, and a few titanium ones
DSCN0370 by Stuart Black, on FlickrThe wheel is quartered with red, blue, yellow and green to match the Dean logo but I got a color scheme going here
DSCN0934 by Stuart Black, on FlickrIt's your bike, do what you want. I would suggest splined spokes from Wheel Fanaytk. Great colors and they don't strip like other aluminum spokes do.

Here's the end result. At the last minute, I caved and went with black spokes. The nipples are alternating green and purple.

I put my black large-flange hub on a lathe and cut just the outer quarter inch, so the spoke hole area was polished silver.

Why limit your options to two choices?

Silver it is! (or will be). I want to thank everyone for weighing in and bringing in perspectives I hadn't thought about. (Milton's suggestion of black spokes and silver nipples is interesting!). In the end I guess I just want to see for myself how silver spokes will look, so I'm going to try them. I'll try and remember to circle back once the build is done and post a photo of the outcome.
Tired of the blah, blah, black all over murdered-out thing.

I have that configuration on another wheelset. It's from an old Haro Beasley. It's a good look too, though I did want a change of pace on this recent build. I'm pretty happy with the green and purple, except that next time I might try harder to choose two, equally bright colors. The green from a distance and depending upon the lighting doesn't leap out a person like the purple does.
