Sometimes its unavoidable, but riding in the rain is extremely dangerous -- especially on high traffic roads. I usually just take to the sidewalk and slow to a crawl if for no other reason than to keep from getting sprayed by every motorist that passes.

Hmm, beside on steep curves or coming to a stop/intersection, I don't really change my riding style when riding in the rain. The other day, I was riding on a MUP close to a road and a car hit a big water puddle that sent a wave of water my way. Saw it coming (my direction on the MUP was against road traffic), simply tuck my head down and let myself be drenched with the warm water (Summer rain is great). Felt invigorating

I had no moisturizer or sunscreen on my face, so it wouldn't have been that. There are no chemical in my hair either. It was just rainwater.

Obviously I am not purposely looking to ride in the rain, but I was already way out there when the rain started so no choice but to head back. I am looking for ideas on how to deal with this, if there are any.

And before anyone chides me about riding in traffic under such conditions I didn't. I was on a forested trail.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
i think if it is stinging that is from the sweat/ salt in your helmet dripping into your eyes. I usually wear glasses when i ride and in the rain I wear a cycling hat under my helmet. I sometimes take my helmet to the shower and rinse/ wash it out so that the sweat does not come out in a rain storm. Just make sure you rinse really good because soap in the eyes hurts just as bad.
