Could also be a problem with the fit of the seat or how the seat is adjusted. Those are easy fixes, and often a necessary thing to fix when you're just starting with a bike.

By now the OP has completed a 40-mile ride and knows how he feels.

Once agaon, though it strives mightily ... BF cannot stop progress .... in the rest of the world.
