OK, you sold me. But I won't do "twixt". |

I live in the most bike friendly state in the US of A. For one overwhelming reason. What state do I live in? Here’s a hint...it might be the last one you ever thought possible. Here’s another hint. This state has had really progressive bike laws on the books for the last 36 years! REALLY progressive laws. In a state where “progressive” is a swear word. Since I was two years old, this state has had bike policies, by law, that no other state in the entire US of A has ever attempted. Some US cities are trying to copy those laws now. Studies have proven that these laws decrease cyclist vs car incidents and also speed up traffic flow by a large margin. So, where do I live? What state do I live in? Can you guess it? Here is the downside. I live in one of the least progressive states in the US (politically), with a culture that hates cyclists on the road, but boasts the best bike policy imaginable. How many people understand the bike policies here? Zero. They have been in place for 36 years, but not one motorist knows that. I still get folks yelling, “learn the laws” out of their car windows. But... They are actually wrong. 36 years wrong. Where do I live? rural or city? |
"How in the hell is this true?"
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...65a33cf421.jpg I came here expecting this to be a complaint about the piss poor work the LBS did on someone's wheel... boy was I disappointed. |

OP’s state of residence somewhere between disappointment and frustration |

I put in bold in the quote section the information my Questions referred to. If you could be a little more specific about those specifics, it would be helpful. Idaho is a fairly large state. It being Idaho is duh. it is the only state with a legal rolling stop, and the Spud part of the OP's name was also a giveaway as it being Idaho. which was all in post #1
My bad--I missed the bold. For what it's worth, I get people in urban MA yelling at me incorrectly that I can't take the lane to avoid being to the right of a right turn lane. |

yeah, but I'd expect that from MA.

I definitely get more harassment from drivers in NH than in MA, but there's certain Boston suburbs that are really bad. Overall, though, Boston is pretty good. Do you think there might be a difference between potato country vs. ski country, and do you have a suspicion of how it would play out?
if ID has issues I'll just assume it is the influx of CA residents/attitudes into ID. |
I'm wondering why it's a downside to live in the least progressive state.?? Typo.??

Boring political cheap shot aside, I don't think that's what he said. Generally, I think most people would associate bike-friendly laws with more liberal states, so the OP is saying it's surprising that it is the "Idaho Stop" instead of, say, the Massachusetts Stop or the Minnesota Stop or whatever. It happened as part of a comprehensive change in driving laws in 1982, and as these things often do, it came down to the fact that the guy who was in charge of that happened to be a cyclist. https://www.bicyclelaw.com/origins-o...-as-yield-law/ |
