I try to pass em while pulling my utility trailer (although, I'll periodically get passed on the loaded return trips).

I know 100 people in that age group and a grand total of 3 are cyclist. Maybe your circle of quinquagenarians is much greater than mine but yeah, I'm sticking with rare.

Whereas I move in Audax/Randonneuring circles where the majority of riders are either nearing 50 or over 50. At one Paris-Brest-Paris, they determined that the average age of the 5000+ participants was 49 and most were clustered right around the 50 mark.

I find that the 2 fastest age groups tend to be early 20's and over 50. Early 20's has youth and few responsibilities. The older group finally has the time to ride as much as they want.

Instead of assuming age you should ask the riders for ID to verify... Oh wait, you couldn't catch them.

The i-Generation loves their gadgets.

Almost everyone I see on an E-Bike is in their 20's.

I think I've seen one 60+ woman on an E-Bike.

Just when they should be using their muscles more. We're witnessing the creation the WALL-E generation.

Maybe they're still waiting for the version that requires no pedaling at all. Please stand by.

I'm still trying to figure out if this Obeast character is really a brilliant troll or a 17 year old who doesn't know any better.

Maybe it's a regional thing, because I see a lot more fast 50+ riders around New England than I do any other age group except maybe early 20s.

I think part of this is that kids in my generation just rode more for fun than the subsequent portable electronic device generations.

The selfishness in your post is ironic, really.
Look up intrusion. Blasting music loud enough for half the park to hear it, whether they want to or not, would be an intrusion. Riding along with friends, enjoying the day and the ride, is what the MUP was designed for. In case you aren't aware, there are these things called earbuds that allow you to listen to your music without intruding on the peacefulness of the trail. I guess if your intention is to draw attention to yourself, you might not use them. Intruding on others with overly loud distracting music instead of using earbuds would be selfish, only taking your own desires into consideration. BTW--if he went around the corner, at the speed he was riding, and someone was walking a dog, it wouldn't have ended well. Nothing against e-bikes, but they should be ridden responsibly, just as you would with any bike-motorized or not.

If the young guy hadn’t said “Good morning, SIR” when he stopped next to me at the light, I wouldn’t have tried so hard to pass him on the climb.

There is already plenty of making fun of the OP's post and viewpoint.
I'll jist add that that first thing I thought of when i read the first sentence was Sandler' song 'At a Medium Pace'.
From 25 years ago and still stuck in my head, apparently.

Youth has strength but not the hate. Old age has a lifetime of bitterness to fuel the cruelty.

Wut????

Did you read the OP or just decide to post this utter nonsense?

Seems to me the young OP is the one that is bitter. The older people are out there happily dropping the OP.
