Internal gear hub
I'm looking to build a new rear wheel for my bike that has a 110mm single speed free wheel rear hub. Does anyone know who makes the narrowest internally geard freewheel hub available? It seems like sturmey archer has one that may just work for me but some websights show that they are 117mm and others say 127mm wide. I'm sure I can make a 117mm hub work. Thanks in advance.

Yes, SA has 117mm 3 spd hubs. 2 years ago I got a brand new one with a DRUM brake that's as good as any brake. It's a SA RD3, the old style with indicator chain. The new ones are wider with the rotary shift inside the dropout. Absolutely awesome and simple to use, set and forget. Disassemble and re-lube it after 4,000 miles or so.
Make sure it comes with the better dome nut for the left side.
I guess it is possible to make the lock nuts a bit thinner if necessary. After the first year, I took it apart and switched to oil bath inside to help it run even better.
My bike is a 1973 CCM with a 1 piece crank, it sure beats having a cotter clunker. I have zero worries about taking it for 70 mile rides on the busy highways here.
Mine is geared 46/18T for speed. LOL. I even went 1930 miles on the 30 year old nylon tire.
Hope your frame isn't too stiff to spread. I bought my SA stuff online from SJS cycles in SW England. They have everything.
