I Got a New Bike!

I'll just have to settle for taking the rack on and off for grocery runs and other errands. It takes a few minutes to take on and off, a bit of an inconvenience, but those quick release racks are not very secure and can't carry much weight. Plus it's an extra $60 for a clearly inferior product.

We'll if you don't need free hands, that I can see how it works. But, I'm going up down between 10-20 flights are stairs / escalators and walking about 1mi when I cross London (and it's jammed with people), thus a backpack makes sense as I have shown in the videos. If you don't utilise major urban facilities/areas, I get your argument.

So I've done a few errand and grocery store runs since. It hasn't been too bad. A couple of tweaks: I carry the U-Lock in my backpack instead of on the bike and forego the front wheel cable lock altogether. Reducing the bike weight by 4 lbs or so in this way seems to make enough of a difference as to make the bike reasonably fun to ride again. :-) Not quite as much fun as a completely unburdened ride, but the convenience of being able to haul the equivalent of 3 large grocery bags is certainly well worth it. So, the best of both worlds? Close enough for now.

It does rattle around a lot in the rear bag lol.
There's no magic formula or panacea: it comes down to trial and error and personal preference.
There are some options for a very lightweight motor and battery which will be introduced shortly; I'll let the beta testers take their licks first.
