Any Garmin rebates yet for 2019

really want to upgrade to the 1030 but looking for a rebate or something. I NEED a bigger screen and do like my Garmin 520 so the 1030 seems to be a great fit. I have 5 months before I really need to get it but looking for a rebate or something.

Anyone heard of Garmin doing one this spring, I couldn't find one yet.

Yea, I needed a bigger screen, too (old eyes). I scored a sweet deal on the 1000 about 2 months ago. $400 for a bundle that included HR monitor and speed/cadence sensors. You might look for that kind of deal unless you really have your heart set on the 1030.

I don't know how much you'd want/need from a rebate. But, just usual google shopping finds some deals, eg.

I don't want to go the phone route. I have a 800$ already and don't carry it on rides. I would rather have a dedicated bike computer. Besides ANT+ is a must and the battery life alone on a phone deal is not going to work out for me either.

If I can get the 1030 for around 500 or so I would rather get the latest and greatest. Reviews on the 1000 were not stellar but I am sure they are good. I want the 1030 because its the largest screen on the market. I have prescription sunglasses for riding but man riding with small font on the 520 is just getting smaller and smaller as my years go on. I think the 1030 is where I want to go.

IIRC Garmin hopped on the MAP=MSRP train long ago. The only semi-reliable bet for rebates on Garmin hardware is to use DCRainmaker's code on his blog gets you 10% off:

https://www.dcrainmaker.com/clever-training-vip

Note the fine-ish print. That is the best you can hope for, other than shopping open=box/refurb units.

FYI the Garmin 1030 with the Bontrager logo is a bit different. Its the 1030 model but with the Trek lights and BikeQ installed by Trek. So it has the Trek light controls and some Trek maintenance program installed. Neither item can be removed I guess either according to my LBS. Its a Trek specific Garmin. Its functions the same but with extra Trek tracking stuff. I think I will wait for the standard 1030 being I a not a trek guy I guess.

Here's more info on the bontrager edition. I don't imagine you have to use the extra apps they installed, so perhaps it doesn't matter at all if they're on there?

They can be ignored/deleted. I am still waiting for a check to see if the thing requires you to sign in and get their propaganda for the bike mechanic app portion. The LBS here thought it was required so you can get emails about scheduled maintenance and such, he thought maybe that was, so there is some question if that is a required deal or not.

If not, yep I am getting this guy....great price for the 1030 and my eyes will appreciate it.

I got mine for $450 December '17 at Western Bike Works. If you have a 'Leaders' account there (which you get after making a couple purchases and checkout registered not as guest) they have good deals on them periodically. Just put one in your 'watched' list and check every morning, grab it when they have a good deal. If you are in a rush, other places have them at 20% off occasionally too. Trek Super Store is another place online to watch for 20% off codes, which will include Garmin on occasion as an example.

The 1030 is an awesome computer, got if for the same reason you did, wanted a larger screen, but it has lots of other advantages too!

This seems to be more the case for some product lines than others. I find the Edge line is rarely discounted by a much over here (in the UK) whereas fitness trackers such as the Vivosmart range seem to attract more of a discount.

I bought a 520 Plus in December with a 40% discount through my health insurer, so that may be worth checking in to. Also don't forget CamelCamelCamel to track the price of any item on Amazon.

oh i understand but im trying to figure out why people want garmins .
out side of size and accuracy of data im having trouble wanting to buy a 200 or more usd device that dies less than my phone .
my phones and battery extender cost 75 bucks and does ant + blue tooth full osm maps turn by turn and music . the holder costs 6 bucks . im just wondering what does the garmin really do beyond a map .

Battery life for my 520 is 10 hours with everything going on it, I could push that out if I made the device not do some things. I doubt my cell phone will do that. I will not carry my cell phone on rides for the fact I don't want to break it anyways. Over $800 for my phone, not a risk I am willing to take. I have more faith that the Garmin will withstand more abuse than a iPhone. With all the sensors connected to the Garmin it works perfect, because that is what it is designed to do. I have a power meter, speed sensor, cadence, HR, and the edge remote connect to my 520 and it just plain old works great. I just want a bigger screen to see better.

I won't judge anyone who uses their phone, I have lots of riding partners who do and they have a battery pack zip tied to their frame and such, seems like a lot of fuss, but it works fine. Data plans I have no idea on the costs, my work picks up the tab on my phone plan so I don't have unlimited data. Not sure if I would exceed my limit or not I guess. I get home and my Garmin sends everything to my phone as soon as I finish the ride or come in range of my phone.
In my opinion the Garmin is just the way to go and worth the investment. Or Wahoo, Polar, SRM whatever your flavor of computer is they are a solid investment for what they are designed to do!

I will leave the 520 on my Zwift bike whenever I do get the 1030. I got the 520 right when it came out. I replaced a very worn out 500. I would have probably gotten the 1030 if it had been out then.

I don't listen to music anymore either, too dangerous for street riding....one more point, you mentioned accuracy....some people want it to be super clean and some want close enough, I want it as accurate as possible and your right on the point the phone is going to be less accurate because its not specific job is a bike computer.

Ride on~

Bontrager Discount

I just saw this thread. It’s too late now but next time Trek has their sale on Bontrager labeled stuff some shop will discount the Bontrager Edge 1030. A couple of months ago I got the bike club 10% discount but last week I could have gotten 20%. And it’s all black. Not that it matters since I have a black protective cover on it. ;-). Paid a lot but like the 1030. It did lock up during a routes ride once. Holding the lap and power buttons did a mile reset. Like the auto make a route to ride. When I’m away in a new place with my bike 🚲 it has made some good routes. Just wish is worked with BaseCamp like my Montana 610.
