Yes, yes, but did you 'wave' to those hundreds or give them 'the look'? Either is acceptable, but one must do one or the other and then start a thread about it here on teh Biek Forms.

The Axiom of Bike Forums: Here is a place where a person is equally likely to pridefully tell you how little they spent on something as how much they spent on it. Penny-pinching and spending without concern are evenly represented. And as I say, "Just because it cost more doesn't make it better... and vice-versa."
I don't ride a REBSO because I could never get myself to spend that much money on a bike-- but so long as that other dude isn't spending my money, more power to him. I genuinely hope he has a long and happy relationship with his $15K bike.
All that said, I do know more than a handful of people with $5K+ bikes that might ride 1,000 miles a year. That's their prerogative, but it still saddens me a little. Then again, I don't look at bikes as collectibles or objets d'art.

10K a year is great. I end up in the 5k range usually. When I completely retire in a couple years I hope to ride a bit more (although maybe I should just work on keeping it where it is now!).

I put one on my wife's new (rebuilt used) bicycle. She likes it and it is about the loudest <50gm bell you can find.
I'm goinna get one for my steed too. I just gotta find it cheaper than the LBS (the source of hers as part of Christmas ...)

You're right. If you buy a custom fit frame (ti for example, if you like that material), and get some fancy wheels, and an Ultegra (or if you are a real idiot, Dura Ace) Di2 groupset, a saddle, bars and misc., and assemble it yourself because you like doing it, $10,000 isn't hard to get to. I have been riding bikes enthusiastically since I was 16. I'm now 67, and have more than one of those 'makes me a fool bikes'. So, my apologies.

I could just go buy a bike and be $$ ahead. Except I would not ride it much. No fun in not trying new bits and pieces. Those try-outs and tests are a fair percentage of my riding
Besides, you have not crossed that magic number (in my head) that makes it an REBSO ( >$15K ) ...
And I never said I would not own one, or ride it. I'd just be out there proudly riding a REBSO and wearing a grin
I think I'll have to get some Tee Shirts printed up that say "My Other Bike is a REBSO"

Re the OP, his name (TiHabanero) I would guess means we have something in common, one of the definitely NOT REBSO bikes I built was using a Habanero Ti frame (great frame, good price).

Good luck on that. I haven't been able to find any for less than full retail.

Really shouldn't be confused with Bike Shaped Objects. Not even in the same league.

"Habanero Ti frame (great frame, good price)"
Ended up with a Habby because he had 1" head tube frames available without a super upcharge for it. Really wanted a US made frame, but was quoted a sizable sum to get one in 1" head tube. Very pleased with the Habanero and I am fortunate that Mark had a 1" head tube frame to fit me. For sure an undervalued titanium frame.
