I've seen a lot of critters up in the trees. I'm not sure 'stuck' is a good description. They usually find a way down when they are ready.

Mountain lion attacks (on humans, obviously) have historically been rare. In the last several decades there have been 1 or 2 per decade on average. A Colorado trail runner was attacked Monday, you've probably heard of this, he strangled the cougar. This is the third attack in less than 12 months.
Soon we'll all need medieval armor and sacrificial dogs just to go outside. i go out at night with my dogs and i have only seen a coyote 2 times , but that could have been two chances for an attack , and even i stopped carrying my field knife because its bulky , but that one tool could end a coyote or a lion attack real quick . |
He's lucky it was a juvenile and that Momma wasn't any where near or the out come would've been very different.

Reminds me of "Missing 411" and Rusty Wood's You tube series on people that have gone missing in the parks.

Having a Kangal or two along would be secure. Guard dog genetics. Huge. Will take on any aggressor, including mountain lions, bears, pit bulls, with over twice the jaw strength of pit bulls. Able to kill wolves.

Knee to the kneck if you have a chance |

I'm not justifying what happened by any means, but, given that the only really safe place for the big cats, and lots of other species, to live is the zoo, You must realise how much of their environment, not to mentions their species, we have destroyed through wilful destruction of their habitat.
3 attacks is probably co-incidence, and no more. Horrible for the friends and family, with whom we all sympathise, but surely road deaths, murders, falls, drowning etc far outweigh the numbers killed by these animaks. I'd also note that hunters alone still kill animals of many species, whether they are 'protected' or not. And furthermore, hunters contribute to wildlife and habitat in huge dollar numbers. More than any other group of society. Hunters love wildlife in many different ways and that my friend is a positive. Ya. And THAT'S the truth. And no, I don't hunt. |
Next thing you know, Avole will claim that bicyclists sometimes run stop signs.

Are you suggesting that hunters kill protected wildlife.?? You are wrong and you shouldn't post fake facts. Only poachers kill protected wildlife.

A fact by definition must be just that, and cannot be other than true. The word you want is ‘lie’. |

I think there are more and more people doing adventure outdoor thing...more and more bloody encounter there will be like this. Especially nowadays alot of people are doing it solo.
time for more pepper spray and stun guns |
Isn’tthat rather harsh, and expensive? I mean, not to mention the logistics of training the animals to use them :) |
Note: the above post is not intended to be serious. However do not, repeat do not, approach a mountain lion on a bike with a pepper spray. |
My closest encounter with a puma was while running my dog off leash in the Oakland hills. I was able to see and leash my dog before crossing paths with a guy walking a cougar on leash.

Looks like pepper spray works |
Anybody that runs alone in the woods is just asking for trouble. Particularly when you already know cougars are out there and aggressive. I question the wisdom of anyone that would pursue such a reckless course.

They are training for some event. Running in the woods seems to be gotten popular. It's tough to find running buddies sometimes, due to people's hectic schedule.
I'd be just as worry about snakes. What if you step on a rattler snake and it bites you. That's really bad too. They are camoflaged and hard to see sometimes. Also makes the treadmill and indoor stationary bike sound really really good if you live in those areas with lots of cougars |
