Her is a good reason you should learn to repair and adjust your own bike.

Contrary to some threads you read here, a bike is a very simple machine to maintain yourself.

I’m lucky. I used to work at my LBS and even prior to working there if I had an issue I would take in at non-busy time and see if they can at least diagnose issue and often they will make the adjustment right then and there n/c.

I had issue with bike not shifting to big ring. It’s been issue since I bought bike in March. Shop I got bike from made some adjustments a few months ago and it seemed ok. I use bike for commute and don’t really need big ring so had been riding in small ring. Oddly one day I hit a bump and it shifted into big ring without me touching anything. Hmmmm.

So last Sunday I put this bike on trainer as using it on trainer was other purpose I bought it for. I shifted it into big ring after getting it set up. So on Monday I was doing Zwift Academy workout and in getting to comfortable gear put it back into small ring. Later I tried to shift back to big and it wouldn’t. Hmmmm

The FD was moving over just couldn’t get chain moved. No way was cable stretch issue since I rarely have used that shifter other than to trim. So took off trainer on Friday and took to shop in AM. They quickly determined issue and fixed it n/c. Turns out crank was loose (likely not checked by original mechanic when bike was built since this issue was present from get go). The crank was moving back and forth and moving chain ring away from bike and outside FD range.

I purchased chain degreaser and a chain cleaning brush before leaving
