I've had two Trek bikes and both were fine bikes. Many of my friends ride them, too. Good dealer support. Fair pricing.
If Bike Forums existed in the 60's and 70's, people would have complained about too many Schwinns and Fujis.

Unless you ride a Trek, too.

BTW, I hope you don't own a Toyota Corolla. They're everywhere, like hordes of locusts.

HA!....I'm old enough to remember when Trek was a "young turk" company.
"Trek?" as in 'Star Trek'?" I asked a friend who was considering purchasing a Trek bike at the time. I remember thinking, what a dumb name for a company.
.....god, that was a lifetime ago.

My first "real" road racer was a used Trek 660 with Campy Nuovo and Modolo brakes with, check this out, aero levers. Rode the hell out of that bike until the head tube developed a crack. Became my trainer bike until I dialed it up to 400 watts and snapped the right chainstay. A few years later I bought my first MTB. Trek 930. Rode the hell out of that, too. When I decided I didn't want it anymore I put it in the alley with the rest of the trash. Someone took it within two hours. I like to think it's still being ridden today.

My first commuter and real MTB was a Trek 4500, ca. 2000. I paid it onward when I decided to try road cycling instead in '03.
My current commuter is a Trek SU100, ca. 2006/2007 that I got on CL in 2018 for a whopping $150. That thing is a tank and I love it. Best $150 I ever spent.

Nothing wrong with Trek, but not my cup of tea. Like many, when I started cycling I looked first at Trek, before deciding the Trek shops around here suck and the hybrids were pretty dull. Went Specialized and never looked back, at least for hybrids. Next hybrid will be Specialized also. I realize that's like saying Ford sucks but Chevy doesn't, but most Treks are just a turn off to me for no real reason. Project One Madone on the other hand...

Specialized x 2; Giant x 1 here. That should gratify the op, but I expect it will offend others.
Edit: forgot to mention, I fully realize now, having read this thread, that all three of my bicycles are 'just commodities' with little to differentiate them either from each other or from other bicycles.
Sad.

I'm guessing the LBS in your area are Trek dealers? If you are seeing a lot of Treks on the road, that is a good thing. Better than Big Box bikes. Really anything with 2 (or even 3) wheels is good. It means people are going outside and riding. I'm happy with my Specialized. My husband likes his Trek. It shouldn't matter to you what anyone else rides.
